Book Review: 5 Stars for Weekly Soul (Craigie)

Image
Readers' Favorite awarded 5 stars to Weekly Soul by Dr. Frederic Craigie. Jamie Michele writes: Weekly Soul: Fifty-two Meditations on Meaningful, Joyful and Peaceful Living by Frederic C. Craigie Jr., Ph.D. is a non-fiction motivational guide that offers a distinct and fulfilling purpose under the umbrella of twelve uplifting themes. Each week opens with a quote that corresponds with the message provided for contemplation in the days ahead. This is then followed by a soulful fleshing out of the main theme that allows a reader to connect with the overall message. After this, the weekly episode gives points of reflection for the reader that are to be carried through the week to elevate the experience with an awareness that we might not otherwise employ. Finally, the weekly chapter ends with an introduction to the referenced author. It took me a few minutes longer than normal to figure out how to impart Weekly Soul into my life as the book has a unique format from others in the medita

Enough Already, and Already It's Enough: Guest Post by Julia Aziz

Image
The following post comes from Julia Aziz, author of Lessons of Labor : I’ve been living in the same neighborhood for ten years now, and given that I take a walk at least once a day, I’m pretty familiar with my surroundings. There’s the blue house with the big cactus out front, the little library around the corner, the “for sale by owner” sign two blocks away… you get the picture. Seeing the same things every day can, as you may well know, get a little monotonous. Yesterday though, it occurred to me that I could walk in a different direction. That sounds obvious, I know, but taking a left from my front door means crossing a busy street, so I never go that way. Yesterday however, I turned left, waited to cross the street, and found myself in a neighborhood I had never seen before. Listen, it wasn’t as if I discovered Shangri-la. It’s just another neighborhood, right? But yesterday it felt like grace, getting happily lost on unfamiliar streets with new sights to see. Of course this mini

Monday's madness is over, and Wednesday will take us over the hump, so Tuesday it is--for some serious discussion with authors. Tuesday talks mean to address authors in waiting and self-published authors who would like to go a more traditional route or who would at least like to take their steps with a publisher by their side. Today's topic is about choosing a publisher. Of course, you do choose a publisher, but also a publisher chooses you. It is a two-way affair. So, let's take each approach separately. How do you choose a publisher? Decide what you are looking for in a publisher. Do you want a large publisher with big pockets who might be able to get your book on the NYT best seller list, give you a large advance, or get you attention from a national television show? (You better have one whale of

Why Your Self-Care Can't Wait Until the New Year (guest post by Julie M. Gentile)

Image
When was the last time your mind and body felt amazing, when your thoughts and words flowed effortlessly and you moved energetically and gracefully? The added stress and pressure during the holiday season from the extra things that need to get done—shop for the perfect gifts and then find time to wrap them, set goals for the New Year and then follow-through with them—make it easy to put off self-care during the busiest time of year. My question to you: Why wait until January 1 to start taking better care of yourself? Life is happening now. In this very moment, with this very breath. Thinking that you’ll wait to be happy when you lose weight or you’ll wait to be happy when you have your dream house or you’ll wait to be happy when you retire does not offer you the health and happiness you deserve today. Your self-care can’t wait for you to pay attention to it until tomorrow. Self-care is needed now—your mind and body desperately crave it. From the list below, choose on
