From the Blog Posts of MSI Press Authors: Arthur Yavelberg posts an interesting reflection on integrity ("Not Two")

Image
Arthur Yavelberg, author of the multi-award-winning book,  A Theology for the Rest of Us , reflects this week on the concept of integrity in a post entitled "Not Two:" " You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might." (Dt. 6:5) Most people think of the term "integrity" in the moral context of "honesty," with the opposite being "dishonesty."  That is technically not the case.  "Integrity"--which has the same root as "integer" or "one"--is more about consistency between thoughts, emotions and actions.  In that case, the antonym would be "hypocrisy," which may or not involve telling the truth.  ( read more ) A Theology for the Rest of Us  has earned the following awards: Best Indie Book Award Literary Titan Silver Aware American BookFest Best Books Award finalist For more posts about Arthur and his book, click  HERE . From the Blog Posts of MSI Press Authors: Arthur Yavelberg - "Not So Far Away"

Image
Today's shared blog post comes from Arthur Yavelberg, author of the multiple award-winning book, A Theology for the Rest of Us . In "Not So Far Away," Arthur writes: On the flight on the way back from Europe I was able to watch two movies. One was “ Hypnotic ” about a sinister conspiracy to use the mind’s power to control others through the telepathic creation of “hypnotic constructs.” The other was “ Corner Office ,” which depicts a middle manager who could be extremely effective in his work and personal life—but only in the context of a dignified, comfortably furnished corner office that significantly did not have any windows. Alas, all his co-workers saw was him standing zombie-like in the hall.  Read the rest of the post HERE .  Awards Best Indie Book Award Literary Titan silver award American Bookfest Best Books Finalist To read more posts by and about Arthur and his book, click  HERE . From the Blog Posts of MSI Press Authors: Not So Still, Small Voice (Yavelberg)

Image
From Arthur Yavelberg, author of A Theology for the Rest of Us -- Not So Still, Small Voice In times of terrible tragedies—whether personal or world-wide—many in the West think of the Bible and pray.  While the text of the prayer may be general–”Please fix this!”–there is usually the hope that there will be some dramatic, divine intervention—much like, say, God splitting the Red Sea in the Book of  Exodus .  However, while there are many examples of such miracles in both the Old and the New Testaments, there are also accounts where God’s presence is not at all obvious.  For instance, in the Book of Genesis, the  Joseph  of “The Coat of Many Colors” fame is despised by his brothers, sold into slavery and spends years in an Egyptian dungeon—only to rise to power by the side of the Egyptian vizier, save the lands from a devastating drought and rescue his family.  As Joseph tells his bewildered brothers, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now be

From the Blog Posts of MSI Press Authors: Arthur Yavelberg asks "Voltaire or Shakespeare?"

Image
Today's shared blog post comes from Arthur Yavelberg, author of A Theology for the Rest of Us : " Voltaire or Shakespeare." Voltaire  was an 18th Century French playwright.  Highly influential regarding the   French Revolution ,  he was a rabid atheist and satirist. He wrote:  “One hundred years from my day, there will not be a Bible on earth except one that is looked upon by an antiquarian curiosity-seeker.”    Ironically, it is also said that, some 50 years later, the Protestant Bible Society purchased one of the chateaus where Voltaire had his works published.  Apocryphal or not, the fact remains that far many more people today are familiar with the Bible than with Voltaire or his masterwork, “ Candide .”   I have no problem with Voltaire’s atheism.  I do have a problem with his being rabid about it.  Rationalist that he has been proclaimed to be, one would think his utter disdain for any set of beliefs would be considered far too emotional, especially on so uncer
