Book Review: Amazon 5 Stars for Rainstorm of Tomorrow (Dong)

Image
A 5-star review popped up from a reader named Steve Timmons on Amazon recently: Wonderful book that challenged my thoughts and notions which I took for granted. Renyon poses mind experiments and propositions that had me looking more from the outside in than inside out. At times I just read with a big grin. Highly recommended. Philosophy is NOT dead. A Touch of the South

For those attracted by the charm of the South, check out the following MSI publications: Abandoned, neglected and beaten by a mother who really did care about her but suffered from her own demons and addictions, left with friends and relatives, as well as placed in foster homes, molested and raped on more than one occasion, including by men considered upright, the little girl who grew up to become an educator, minister, and entrepreneur learned to survive by running away again and again. This heartbreaking and heartwarming story, told with courageous frankness, reveals a deep trust in God that, in the long run, promoted an unbelievable resilience, allowing a young girl, turned young woman, to forgive those who hurt her and to reach out to all those who hurt with a message of healing and hope. Guest Post by MSI Press Author, Julia Aziz: On Falling Apart and Getting Back Up Again

Image
We are moving through the Days of Awe in the Jewish tradition this week, a deeply reflective time that starts with an autumnal new year and ends with a holy day of fasting, accountability, and forgiveness. In this ten day period, each member of the community is asked to own up to the ways in which they have become out of alignment with what is true and loving. No one is exempt from this process, for it is understood that being a human being means wanting to do better and failing often. Throughout the High Holy Days, we speak aloud the many ways we have fallen off track, from being greedy and inconsiderate to talking unkindly behind someone’s back to not speaking up against injustice. Now, you might be thinking this is a big “oh, how guilty am I” vortex. But it’s really not. It’s not about self-hate; it’s about acknowledging human frailty, taking corrective action, and recovering our true essence again.  Read the rest of the post HERE . Caturday Special: Biography of Sula, Parish Cat and MSI Press Author

Image
photo by Studio Lovejoy In honor of Caturdy, we share the bio of MSI Press author and Old Mission San Juan Bautista parish car, Sula -- excerpted from her book, Tale of a Mission Cat : About Me and My Predecessors Did you know that every one of the Spanish Missions in California used to have a Mission cat? Some still do. I am one of them. My name is Sula, and I am the Mission cat at Old Mission San Juan Bautista. If you come to the Mission, you can meet me. It seems that quite not of my own doing, I have nonetheless become rather famous of late. Rather than chasing mice (really, there are no mice at the Mission these days, just people, whom I love to comfort; that is, after all, my mission), I try to raise money to save the Mission, which desperately needs to be retrofitted against earthquakes—and to have the roof repaired so that my home, the Mission, does not leak in the rain. How I do that is by giving interviews, writing books, and putting my pawtograph on my books, including

Book Review of Harnessing the Power of Grief: Easy Read, Well Written, and Helpful

Image
Harnessing the Power of Grief is an enlightening book to help anyone process grief from numerous kinds of losses. It acknowledges that we all have a need for different ways to grieve, there’s no one way for everyone, and that many factors come into play. It is practical and spiritual, but not religious.   With that said, this book could be helpful to people of all faiths or none. This book is an “easy read” because it is so well written, and the chapters are short. I enjoyed Chapter 16,   which was helpful to me at a particular time in my life. I am looking forward to picking this book up again,   when other situations may arise that need my attention.          -Jackie Durham, Lay Chaplain For more information and commentary about Harnessing the Power of Grief and its author, click HERE .
