🌈 National Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day 🌈

Image
Today we remember the ones who walked beside us, slept near us, and loved us with a purity that only animals can offer. Their paws may no longer echo in our homes, but their spirits remain stitched into our lives. 🕊️ Murjan, our gentle warrior, defied lymphoma for 3.5 years—nearly reaching age 19. His quiet strength and enduring presence were a daily grace. 🕊️ Intrepid, his brave pal, was struck by the same cruel disease at the same time. He fought fiercely for three months before joining his beloved staff, Carl, in rest—both taken by cancer, both remembered for their boldness and joy.   Our beloved Bobolink; his days were far too short. Every August 17, cat lovers across the country pause to honor one of the most enigmatic and underappreciated members of the feline family: the black cat. Today is National Black Cat Appreciation Day , a moment to celebrate their sleek charm, challenge old superstitions, and advocate for their rightful place in our homes and hearts. 🌑 A Day Born of Memory This holiday was founded in 2011 by Wayne H. It began as a personal tribute and grew into a national movement—one that invites us to reconsider the myths that have long shadowed these beautiful creatures. In shelters, black cats are often overlooked, their adoption rates lagging behind their more brightly colored peers. But today, we shine a light on their quiet dignity and magnetic presence. 🐾 Why Black Cats Matter Black cats have been symbols of mystery, magic, and mischief for centuries. In some cultures,...

Caturday: Feeding Hope -- A Week for Rescue Pets and the Cats Who Change Us

Image
Bobolink, a rescue cat and beloved family member, getting a special treat It’s National Feed a Rescue Pet Week, and while the spotlight includes all creatures waiting for a second chance, my heart drifts to the quiet dignity of cats curled in shelter corners. This week isn’t just about kibble—it’s about compassion, continuity, and creating homes where healing can begin. Cats in rescue shelters are survivors. They’ve lived through dislocation, fear, and the long wait for someone who sees beyond the “adoptable” label. Feeding them—literally and metaphorically—is a commitment to their stories, their future, and the companionship they so gracefully offer. 🎨 And with Craft for Local Shelters Day coming July 21, there’s a hands-on way to help: Sew a soft blanket or hammock Make simple toys out of felt and thread Donate scratch pads or climbing shelves These aren’t luxuries—they’re lifelines. Enrichment helps stressed cats show their true selves, increasing their chances of ad...
