Book Review by Readers' Favorite: From Tuscany with Love (Avina)

Image
AN INTERESTING AND INSIGHTFUL READ Says Readers' Favorite about From Tuscany with Love by Lauretta Avina:  Our roots, where we were born, define who we are. But so do the foods we prepare and share amongst family and friends. In Lauretta Avina’s From Tuscany with Love , we follow the author as she shares her life, first in Tuscany and then in the United States. As the family became part of the melting pot of immigrant America, this Tuscan family maintained their love of the traditions they left behind in the Old World. A big part of these traditions revolved around food. As the memoir unfolds, so do the recipes that define the author. “As my family and I embraced our new life in the United States, we also carried with us the rich traditions and memories of our Italian heritage.” Lauretta Avina’s book, From Tuscany with Love: Recipes and Remembrances of an Immigrant Child , is a memoir told in stories and through recipes of the foods the author loves. The author shares her s...

Great Book Review from Readers' Favorite for The Book That (Almost) Got Me Fired (James)

Image
"a memoir like no other" The Book That (Almost) Got Me Fired  by Kelly James received a great review from Readers' Favorite. Read the full 5-star review  HERE . Book description: You're 52. Divorced. Single mom to a teenaged son and a tween daughter. Happily self-employed but worried about the cost of health insurance, the inevitable impact of perimenopause on your body, and whether you should keep dating a sexy plumber who's sweet and funny but lives an hour away and doesn't seem that into you. So, after 22 years of fulltime freelancing, you take a day job as a tiny, creaky cog in the corporate American machine where you're decades older than most of your coworkers - and you write about it. The Book That (Almost) Got Me Fired: A Year in Corporate America is an entertaining, midlife memoir that shares what (and what not) to do when you make that corporate leap. Keywords: Midlife career change;  Corporate culture transition;  Workplace memoir;  Freelance to...

Because we had published a number of very good books before starting this blog, books that to this day have a growing fan club, we consider it important to share some "oldies but goodies" with our readers. Today's oldie-but-goodie is a review of Lessons of Labor (Julia Aziz) from Readers' Favorite. Says RF:  The writing style is fluid, descriptive, honest, assertive and simple. All the advice is easy to incorporate and practice. The book is also a nice way of looking at motherhood through someone else's eyes. Apart from expectant mothers and new mothers, this book will be helpful to all birth or postpartum professionals. Another 5-Star Book Review for When Liberty Enslaves (Aveta)

Image
Just in, a review of  When Liberty Enslaves: The Toxic Blend of Faith and Politics  by Jerry Aveta. "unique perspective on issues" Reviewed by Foluso Falaye for Readers' Favorite  Jerry Aveta's When Liberty Enslaves is an exploration of the chaotic relationship between religion and politics in the USA, as well as a call for focusing on the importance of true freedom and making wise political decisions. Since Jerry grew up in a predominately white New Jersey community in a second-generation Italian family, his reality was distant from the plight of blacks in the USA. Fortunately, he became more aware of this issue after witnessing George Floyd's death in 2020. From his personal views on slavery and the struggles of black Americans today to messages about Christian values, Jerry shares thought-provoking essays that address various political, social, and religious problems.  By looking into the history of the USA and events from Lincoln'...
