CURRENTLY #3 ON AMAZON'S LIST OF HOT NEW RELEASES. Book description: You're 52. Divorced. Single mom to a teenaged son and a tween daughter. Happily self-employed but worried about the cost of health insurance, the inevitable impact of perimenopause on your body, and whether you should keep dating a sexy plumber who's sweet and funny but lives an hour away and doesn't seem that into you. So, after 22 years of fulltime freelancing, you take a day job as a tiny, creaky cog in the corporate American machine where you're decades older than most of your coworkers - and you write about it. The Book That (Almost) Got Me Fired: A Year in Corporate America is an entertaining, midlife memoir that shares what (and what not) to do when you make that corporate

Author in the News: Arthur Yavelberg Interviewed on the Patricia Raskin Podcast

Image
No one could give a better introduction and summary of this podcast than Arthur himself, author of A Theology for the Rest of Us : For those of you who missed it--which is one way of saying "for those of you who have a life"--this is a recording of my radio interview with Patricia Raskin on VoiceAmerica. As I understand it, she found what I had to say compulsive....ummm...no...I believe "compelling" was the word she used. (Norm Crosby, where are you?) Also, if you listen closely, you can hear Frodo criticizing my analysis of Arjuna's existentialist dilemma in the Bhagavad Gita. That alone is worth the price admission...errr...which, at "free," is very reasonable... Here is the official description of the podcast episode: In his new book, Yavelberg tackles all types of questions in the hopes of providing some religious illumination in these uncertain times. By examining various religious' insights on topics like free will, the identity of the

Author in the News: Interview with Renyuan Dong, Author of Rainstorm of Tomorrow, by Literary Titan

Image
From the interview: Rainstorm of Tomorrow  shares your provocative philosophical insights on truth, ethics, and aesthetics. Why was this an important book for you to write? “Philosophy is dead,” declared Stephen Hawking in agreement with many others. “As philosophers have not kept up with science, their art is dated.” However, if we refer to the history of how humans pursue knowledge, we will not find that different disciplines replaced one another in sequence. It is not that the wilt of religion gave rise to philosophy, or that the denouement of philosophy set the stage for science—nor is the world segmented into discrete, incompatible disciplinary fields. Every discipline is a language capable of encompassing all phenomena in the world. Each speaks with a unique voice. In practice, however, we rarely lean on one discipline alone to explain everything around us. For example, we are not likely to use the language of physics—despite its sufficiency—to restore psychological activities

Author in the News: Arthur Yavelberg Interviewed by Tucsonlocalmedia

Image
(photo Tucsonlocalmedia) Arthur Yavelberg, author of A Theology for the Rest of Us, was recently interviewed in the Tucsonlocalmedia: " Religion Educator Pens A Theology for the Rest of Us ."'  Here is an excerpt: There are questions that have answers, questions without answers, and questions that just lead to more questions. In his new book, “A Theology for the Rest of Us,” local writer Arthur Yavelberg tackles all these types of questions in the hopes of providing some religious illumination in these uncertain times. Now that’s not to say the book aims to convince anyone of anything, but by examining various religions’ insights on topics like free will, the identity of the creator, and why evil exists, Yavelberg provides a map for spiritual awareness.  Yavelberg, who has worked as a teacher of history and comparative religion, as well as the head of Tucson Hebrew Academy, describes the book as “the sum total of his religious theological insight over a lifetime.” But f
