From the Blog Posts of MSI Press Authors: Elizabeth Mahlou Writes of Miracles

From the blog of Elizabeth Mahlou, 100th Lamb . M iracles. Why do I seem to get so many of them? Then I wondered if I really did get a disproportionate share of them, or have I just learned to recognize them. My conclusion? I think miracles happen more often than people know (or recognize). On a related topic, there has been some lively discussion on some blogs recently of distractions during prayer. This is, of course, not a recent or uncommon discussion. It's been a problem throughout the centuries, and I, of course, do experience such distractions. I try to follow the advice to ignore them and return to contemplation, but sometimes these distractions take on a life of their own. Similarly, but with a happier result, sometimes while I am in the midst of work, particularly boring but important meetings, I become intensely aware of God's presence in the room. The result is that I become quite distracted from the business of hand, sometimes embarrassingly so. Nonetheless, if y

Daily Book Excerpt: Forget the Goal, the Journey Counts (Stites) - My Second Miracle

Excerpt from Forget the Goal, the Journey Counts (Stites)  My Second Miracle   It was during this period of my life when I had the second of my automobile “experiences” with my new Volkswagen Hatchback. One night, around 11:00 p.m., I was driving home to Arlington from a party in D.C. I had had a few drinks, and for some reason I took a winding blacktop road through the residential section instead of the freeway, my usual route. At the top of a rise I saw a curve ahead, and realized I was driving too fast. I hit the brakes twice. The car suddenly fishtailed violently, and I lost control. As it went off the road to the right and up a slope, I gripped the bottom of the steering wheel, bowed my head, and closed my eyes. The car catapulted over a 10 foot embankment, rolled over, landed on the roof, and then rolled over again slamming into a bank. I must have been unconscious for a short time because when I opened my eyes, the road was lined with cars, and a policeman was hurry

Daily Excerpt: Jesus Is Still Passing By: With Secrets for a Victorious Life (Easterling): The Woman Who Touched Jesus

Excerpt: THE WOMAN WHO TOUCHED JESUS (Gospel account in Matthew 9:20-22; Mark 5:24-34: Luke 9:43-48)   A large crowd was following Jesus, pressing around him. A woman crept up quietly, trying to touch him. This dear lady had an internal bleeding disorder. For twelve years, she’d suffered under the care of many doctors and spent all her money to pay them. But, instead of getting better, she grew worse. She’d heard of Jesus. So, she pressed through the crowd and slipped up behind him, thinking, “If I only touch his clothes, I’ll be healed.” As soon as she touched his cloak, she felt the bleeding stop. Background This brave lady risked public humiliation by approaching Jesus unbidden. Women of her day were often not treated with dignity. She knew she would likely be ridiculed, but she was enough desperate to choose to face the consequences. The disciples would not be sympathetic. They fancied themselves to be Jesus’ palace guards, shooing the riffraff away, especially women and childre

Excerpt from Jesus Is Still Passing By, With Secrets for a Victorious Life: A Big Fish Story

This book contains 100 miracles from the Gospels -- and similar true-story miracles for today, for a total of 400 (!!) miracles described, explained, and discussed in the book, with questions for individual or group reflection. Here is one of those miracles with its modern-day counterparts: A BIG FISH STORY  (Gospel account in Luke 5:1-11)  Peter and Andrew were fishermen by trade. They’d caught thousands of fish and no doubt loved to swap fish stories with their friends, but this particular fish story topped them all. Here is what happened: One day as Jesus was preaching on the shore of the Sea of Galilee, great crowds pressed in on him to hear this charismatic street preacher. He noticed two empty boats at the water’s edge—their owners had left them and were washing their nets. Stepping into one of the boats, Jesus asked Simon, its owner, to push it out into the water. Then he sat down in the boat and continued teaching the people. When he finished speaking, he said to Si
