Caturday: New Year Surprise

Image
New Year is that magical time of year when we get to look backward and forward at the same time. So, it was both a pleasant surprise and yet not completely unexpected when I found a video about  How My Cat Made Me a Better Man , Jeremy Feig's award-winning cat book ( Book of the Year finalist and Kops-Fetherling Legacy Award in humor ). It is indeed a great book - funny and yet insightful, humorously illustrated by the talented and respected late Russian artist Zhenya Yanovich . Watch Edify , which hosts the video had this to say: On July 1st, MSI Press published How My Cat Made Me a Better Man , the first book written by local comedy screenwriter and filmmaker Jeremy Feig. How My Cat Made Me a Better Man is a humorous self-help guide geared towards men, but with advice relevant to any demographic of reader. Shelly has also inspired Feig to appreciate having his basic needs met and to sometimes prioritize his own happiness, amongst other feline-centric behaviors. For posts about ...

Voices in the Wild: Gems from Sifting MSI Author Pages - Emilie Cleret and Betty Lou Leaver on Transformative Language Learning (International Transformative Learning Association)

Image
Every few days this year (2025), we plan to sift through our author pages and find the hidden video and audio gems because, let's face it, though they often contain fascinating videos and audio gems, often those reading the pages don't have time to listen at the moment and may not find their way back easily. There is often something special about hearing an author's voice. We plan to bring that "special" to you every few days this coming year. The first gem was recorded by the International Transformative Learning Association after a conference at Columbia University and features MSI Press author, Emilie Cleret ( Journal for Distinguished Language Studies ) and MSI Press managing editor, Betty Lou Leaver (author of Achieving Nativelike Second Language Competence  and Think Yourself into Becoming a Language Learning Super Star and co-author of The Invisible Classroom ). Emilie also wrote a book chapter for the book, Transformative Language Learning and Teaching (...

Video Book Review of How to Improve Your Foreign Language (Shekhtman) by Charles Wood

Image
Continuing in what seems to be coming a trend -- we keep coming across videos of readers -- teachers and language learners -- who have fallen in love with How to Improve Your Foreign Language Immediately by Boris Shekhtman. The falling in love is not surprising; this book is the darling of diplomats and international journalists, both groups of individuals that Boris spent his life teaching. What is a little more surprising is the number of people who have quietly made videos about the book and its contents -- and which we stumble across upon occasion, such as today. The latest we have found is an entertaining as well as informative video by an English teacher, Charles Wood and editor of Language Tutor Online, who talks about applying the every simple and very effective principles in the books. You can listen to it HERE . For more posts about Boris Shekhtman and his books, click HERE .
