Guest Post from Franki Bagdade: "Top 10 Reasons I Appreciate My ADHD Brain"

Glass half empty or is it really half full? Usually, ADHD is considered a problem. Franki suggests that it has some value in and of itself, such as: 1. Multi-tasking! Have you ever tried to pat your head and rub your stomach at the same time? Or maybe it’s the other way around… Well, I can’t do that! I can, however, watch tv/listen and write this blog, sing a song, and pet my dog! **It’s a myth that those with ADHD can’t focus. In reality, most of us struggle with focusing on one thing at a time or on something that isn’t so interesting. For me that’s the laundry. It’s always the laundry. Watch my tik tok to see what I mean! Read the rest of the blog post HERE  to find out the other 9 benefits of ADHD. It was well worth the time. Guest Post from FAAB Blog: MSI Press Author, Franki Bagdade, Writes about Writing Woes

Image
In one of her latest posts, Franki Bagdade writes about writing homework: Holy Cr-- my kid has writing homework! Can someone please cue the Jaws theme song? When schools went virtual for the first time (I can't believe that I have to distinguish that), any time my son had to write anything it came with a side of tears. This is Mr. 9, Mr. Happy Go Lucky, Mr. Chill 3rd Child! When he has a meltdown, I find my mind goes completely blank. Even though I teach, speak and write about meltdowns for a living, I have no clue what to do! This is because this kid is so zen that he barely has them. Therefore, I don't have a tool box in my memory full of strategies that work the way I do with the other two. Instead, I start to sweat and swear in my head (at least I think it's always in my head...). Somewhere in the third week of the pandemic I decided to approach this the way I would if it happened in the classroom or if a parent in therapy asked me for advice for their child. As

Book Jewel of the Month: I Love My Kids, But I Don't Always Like Them (Franki Bagdade) - reviewed by JL

What is a book jewel? A sometimes-overlooked book with remarkable insight and potential significance. Starting in August, we will share near-daily, as possible, reviews of the monthly book jewel - short, succinct reviews that can be read in 1-2 minutes with links to the reviewer by reviewers whose words are worthy of being heard and whose opinions are worthy of being considered. Sometimes a couple of minutes contains more impressive thought than ten times that many. We will let you decide that. This month's book jewel is  I Love My Kids, But I Don't Always Like Them   by Franki Bagdade.  Amazon review by JL Great Book for Real World Parents This is a funny book with practical advice for real world parents. Franki doesn't pull any punches about her parenting experience and tells it like it is, which is really refreshing. Franki's anecdotes will ring true for parents, who struggle with raising kids these days and are looking for helpful tips. And isn't that all parent

The Nightmarish 9's: Guest Post from the Blog of Franki Bagdade (I Love My Children, But I Don't Always Like Them)

From FAABConsulting.com (Franki Bagdade) The Nightmarish 9's (or 8 1/2 or maybe even 10!) First of all, I’m sorry. Thoughts and prayers, sorry. It’s going to be ok. Really, they will come back to you, before they hit tween and then teenager land. Let me tell you a story about the first time 9 joined our family. My easy as pie first child hit 9 and turned into a nightmare. She argued about literally everything. She was 9 going on 19 and no that is not funny or cute. To read the full post, click HERE . New, Excellent Book Reviews for I Love My Kids, But I Don't Always Like Them (Bagdade)

Image
Congratulations to Franki Bagdade for continuing wonderful reviews of her book, I Love My Children, But I Don't Always Like Them .  As a parent of two kids and also a psychologist, I have read MANY books on parenting over the years and this one is by far the absolute BEST one I have encountered. It is the perfect length - parents do not have time to read, and this one is manageable, easy to wade through and a pleasure to read. I Love My Kids But I Don't Always Like Them is a brilliant guide to parenting ALL types of children, including our more difficult ones.  Sharp, insightful and solidly based in psychological science, this book is chock full of easy-to-use practical advice, with illustrative, highly relatable and colorful examples. Reading it feels like you are sitting down over coffee with the author herself or a fellow mom (a really smart one!) Franki Bagdade really understands children AND really understands parents, helping bridge the divide between the two. This boo
