From the Blog Posts of MSI Press Authors: Franki Bagdade talks about what to do when your executive functioning stops functioning

Image
So what happens when your executive functioning stops functioning? Franki Bagdade, author of  I Love My Kids, But I Don't Always Like Them , has some suggestions in her recent blog post: It was a typical Tuesday and I was balancing the needs of two businesses and three children. Juggling meeting with clients 1:1 for Therapy or ADHD coaching while using any gaps in my schedule to respond to emails, schedule social media, write blogs, and do laundry (cause there is always, always laundry to do.) This particular day I found a rare 90-minute gap between clients so I scheduled a very needed physical therapy appointment, as I was still recovering from a broken ankle. As I was going through my exercises my phone started buzzing. An email from a therapy client scrolled across my screen asking for the Zoom link for their session starting in ten minutes. Cue a racing heart and panic. I quickly looked at my calendar, a color-coded HIPPA-compliant modern marvel. There was no appointment for

From the Blog Posts of MSI Press Authors: Your Happy May Not Look Like Mine (Franki Bagdade)

Image
From the blog post of Franki Bagdade, author of the award-winning book, I Love My Kids, But I Don't Always Like Them  -- Once when I worked a 9-5, I was in the middle of a stellar yearly review. Receiving top marks in every category. I felt proud, seen and appreciated. As the paperwork was stacked and papers clipped, there was a pause. There was just one thing my supervisor wanted to discuss. There was a concern: when I walked in, in the morning, I was never smiling. I looked unhappy and therefore unapproachable. This was not seen as professional and inviting. This little piece of critique hit me hard. I worked in the field of people!! I was the support person of the organization. I was the one who understood the thoughts and feelings of others. How could I be unapproachable? The review ended amicably and I was left alone with my thoughts. True to form, in solving this problem, I had more questions than answers. Why did I look so unhappy? I loved my work. I loved going into an of

Author in the News: Franki Bagdade Pens Article on Mental Health for American Camping Association Amagzine

Image
"Can We Do Even Better When It Comes to Mental Health?" ask Franki Bagdade, author of I Love My Kids, But I Don't Always Like Them , in an article by the same name in American Camping Association Magazine.  She writes: "Running a camp is one of the world’s most awesome responsibilities. Awesome, because what’s a cooler job than running a camp? Also awesome because the responsibility is so big that it can be overwhelming. When I served on the team of directors of one of the largest residential camps in North America, having made it to midsummer, I often found myself standing in one of the most beautiful spots in camp and finally taking a deep, restorative breath — the one everyone practiced in the great mindfulness workshop during staff training. And l felt relaxed — while also starting to reflect on how we could do even better the next summer."
