Cancer Diary: Resources for Survivors

Image
With cancer, we tend to focus on the fight --- and sometimes losing the fight. Surviving, however, can also be daunting. "What now?" you might ask. Oxford University Press recently published two books that help answer that question: Surviving the Storm is a workbook for telling your cancer story. Psychosocial Care for Cancer Survivors is a guide and workbook for caregivers. For more posts on cancer, click HERE . Blog editor's note: As a memorial to Carl, and simply because it is truly needed, MSI Press is now hosting a web page,  Carl's Cancer Compendium , as a one-stop starting point for all things cancer, to make it easier for those with cancer to find answers to questions that can otherwise take hours to track down on the Internet and/or from professionals. The web page is in its infancy but expected to expand into robustness. To that end, it is expanded and updated weekly. As part of this effort, each week, on Monday, this blog will carry an informative, cance

San Juan Books Presents Its Special Authors: Meet Joshua Shea

Image
San Juan Books is the hybrid division of MSI Press LLC. It allows first-time writers to become published in a traditional way through the reduction of risk by sharing publication costs. All other publishing features are traditional in nature, and most SJB authors go on to be offered traditional contracts for their subsequent books. SJB publications are available as paperback, hard cover, and e-book versions. SJB authors' books very much hold their own against their contemporaries in the traditional publishing division. Indeed, a number of them have outsold their traditional compatriots. Today, San Juan Books presents author Joshua Shea. Together with Tony Overbay, Joshua published He's a Porn Addict....Now What?   Her book has garnered many positive comments, and he has appeared on dozens of podcasts. Subsequently, he was offered a traditional contract for a much-needed book during the pandemic,  Porn and the Pandemic: How Three Months in 2020 Changed Everything. To see more

Incidental Book Review of A Theology for the Rest of Us (Yavelberg) by Sloane Fremont

Image
As part of an interview with author Arthur Yavelberg , Sloan Fremont reviewed Yavelberg's book, A Theology for the Rest of Us , very positively. Here is what Fremont had to say: More about the book,  A Theology for the Rest of Us :  If God exists and is good, why is there evil? Avoiding such questions underlies the spiritual emptiness and anxiety in today’s world. A Theology for the Rest of Us explores how to approach the divine through Eastern and Western religious traditions without dogma, challenging readers to “be you lamps unto yourselves.” In a time of internecine wars and all kinds of abuse of authority and trust, too many good, thoughtful people are “voting with their feet” and turning away from organized religion. Popular “spirituality”-a sort of mysticism-lite articulated in memes-is often unsatisfying as well. A Theology for the Rest of Us is a straightforward approach to the fundamental questions of religion and philosophy: Does God exist? Is there free will? What is
