Book Jewel of the Month: Lamentations of the Heart (Wells-Sith)

 


What is a book jewel? A sometimes-overlooked book with remarkable insight and potential significance. This month's book jewel is Lamentations of the Heart by Marti Wells-Smith.

Description

Lamentations of the Heart soulfully combines contemporary free verse poetry and nonfictional prose to tell the story of one mother’s grief following the death of her only child. The author interweaves scriptural passages with the inevitable struggles to accept and make sense of her new reality. All of it reveals the unending love for family that remains.

Written to reach out to others who have experienced similar pain, it moves upon the uneven, wavering pattern of great emotion, along a tumultuous path blessed with signs and wonders —

I'm about half way through it, and it has touched my heart through every page I have read. Your heart is all over it, Marti. Your pain, grief, that void, yet your Faith in our Father is inspiring, and so comforting. All of the signs Father gave you to let you know Grant is okay, and with our One and True Love is absolutely beautiful.

Those testimonies that are indeed supernatural, and will comfort and give hope to others. Yes, it made me tear up, as I "heard" the cries of a mother who lost her son in the flesh, but knows where he is now, and that you'll see him again - just not in the flesh.

You poured your heart out about something so personal, which is what I am loving so much about your book - the details, everything. I'm finishing your book today on this cloudy, cool day. I can’t put it down ♥️

It is Tuesday. Monday's madness is over, and Wednesday will take us over the hump, so Tuesday it is--for some serious discussion with authors. Tuesday talks mean to address authors in waiting and self-published authors who would like to go a more traditional route or who would at least like to take their steps with a publisher by their side.  Today's post looks at the difference between book marketing and book promotion, two terms that are frequently confused. Leading to the confusion is that some of the same activities are needed for both. In fact, good marketing is dependent upon good promotion.
