Excerpt from God Speaks into Darkness


PREFACE

We learn so much about ourselves in times like these, do we not?

How are you coping with the incredible tragedy of the coronavirus? Has it stretched your faith or weakened it or shattered it? Hopefully, you and your family are well.

You’ve likely heard the adage, “These are the times that try men’s souls.”  I trust it has prompted you to dig down deeper into the bedrock of your faith and draw closer to God. Also, as believers, this is a rare opportunity reach out to befriend others and speak encouragement and hope into troubled hearts. Tragedy is opening many doors.

For centuries, people have found wellsprings of encouragement in the Psalms. These brief meditations inspired by the Psalms also include some of the teachings of Jesus on the same topics. The scriptures used have been paraphrased into language more common to today’s readers. My prayer is that they will be a source of inspiration to you in these challenging times. May you find faith and strength to persevere, bringing courage and blessings to your family and friends.

A Publisher's Conversation with Authors: Book Marketing vs Book Promotion

It is Tuesday. Monday's madness is over, and Wednesday will take us over the hump, so Tuesday it is--for some serious discussion with authors. Tuesday talks mean to address authors in waiting and self-published authors who would like to go a more traditional route or who would at least like to take their steps with a publisher by their side.  Today's post looks at the difference between book marketing and book promotion, two terms that are frequently confused. Leading to the confusion is that some of the same activities are needed for both. In fact, good marketing is dependent upon good promotion. Perhaps the essential difference is that marketing focuses on sales, and promotion focuses on awareness --  noting that without awareness, sales generally do not happen.
