Writing Reinforces Reading
It is literally true that you can succeed best and quickest by helping others to succeed.
~Napoleon Hill
In this chapter, you learned some ways to help your child conquer reading informational texts. There is one last way that deserves to be mentioned. Write! Yes, writing reinforces reading. It makes sense that the more a child reads, the better reader he becomes. The more he writes the better writer he becomes. Did you also know how much the two reinforce each other? The more a child writes the better reader he becomes, too. (And vice versus.)
So, in your quest to find new and better ways to help your child learn to enjoy reading an informational text more or understand it better, don’t forget that encouraging him to write about real-life information is yet another way to do that. “Informational writing” could include writing about anything in his life that he is interested in, such as a special outing or trip, a movie or play review, a pet or animal around the yard, how to do something, etc. (See Chapter 6 for even more, specific ideas.)
