🏋️♀️ Fitness Friday: Iron-Rich Rituals & the Art of Nourished Mornings
Some mornings begin with a jog. Others, with a quiet act of tuning in.
Mine begins with a handful of walnuts, a scatter of blueberries—grown in fields both local and across the border—and a splash of Mexican Sangria (non-alcoholic, fruit-forward, and very much part of my coastal California identity). Somewhere in the middle, a small orange wedges itself into the ritual. It’s not flashy. It’s not branded. But it’s mine.
And lately, it’s been about iron.
A brush with anemia reminded me: health isn’t always about protein shakes or Pilates. Sometimes it’s about asking what your body is missing—then listening in the small spaces. Like not taking calcium and iron at the same time (guilty). Like pairing iron with vitamin C (that little orange again). Like skipping the nausea of supplements on an empty stomach by inviting a few berries and nuts to soften the edges.
This isn’t fitness in the performative sense. It’s fitness in the functional one—the kind that asks, What sustains you enough to show up fully?
Today’s micro-workout:
- 🍊 Eat with intention
- 🫐 Let culture flavor your choices
- 🌰 Know when nutrients compete
- 💧 Drink water like it matters
- 🌅 Build rituals that match your rhythms
And if your version of Sangria tastes like citrus and memory instead of Cabernet? Even better.
What small rituals nourish your mornings? Share them—whether it’s movement, a mantra, or a mindful glass of something meaningful. Because fitness isn’t just in the muscles. Sometimes, it’s in the noticing.
