excerpt from  Damascus amid the War  (M. Imady) --     Pre-war Poems 21-30 21. The Invasion Inside my head, intruders -At night- come to call. The echo of their footsteps Rings in my mind's halls. They hammer out my memory, Saw my thoughts in half. Then chop down my dreams, And leave with hysterical laughs . ***   22. My Destiny My thoughts… Set me dancing In a misty dream Slowly carrying me To my destiny Circling me with Swarms of fears And I scream!   23. The Reception Dressed in finest agony I welcomed my gay thoughts In hysterical gestures –with them – I strived to communicate. They buzzed around the room I could hear their wings beat. Then they flew out of the window and left me in a state of defeat! ***   24. The Departure Gray thoughts slide down from my crowded head, and brush against my face.
