Daily Excerpt: Damascus amid the War (M Imady) - Pre-War Poems 21-30

excerpt from Damascus amid the War (M. Imady) --

  Pre-war Poems 21-30

21. The Invasion

Inside my head, intruders

-At night- come to call.

The echo of their footsteps

Rings in my mind's halls.

They hammer out my memory,

Saw my thoughts in half.

Then chop down my dreams,

And leave with hysterical laughs.

***

22. My Destiny

My thoughts…

Set me dancing

In a misty dream

Slowly carrying me

To my destiny

Circling me with

Swarms of fears

And

I scream!

23. The Reception

Dressed in finest agony

I welcomed my gay thoughts

In hysterical gestures –with them –

I strived to communicate.

They buzzed around the room

I could hear their wings beat.

Then they flew out of the window

and left me in a state of defeat!

***

24. The Departure

Gray thoughts slide down

from my crowded head,

and brush against my face.

Playfully swing themselves

On my wrecked nerves.

Then gracefully hang on

the train of thought

and quietly depart.

***

25. The Sun

I long for a Mediterranean sun

to dry up my bitter tears.

A hot sun

to warm up the chill

in my heart.

I long for a blazing sun

to arouse my dead feelings

and bring me back to life.

26. Time

The years are passing me

in such a haste.

Running me over

to my fate.

Yet though I’m not ready,

I may be late!

For time only tarries

and never waits.

***

27. I’m Due

I’m due!

Time to break through

the body which I lived in

A year or two…

For so long…

I walked in its shoes…

Felt its heartbreaks,

Sorrows and blues,

until it was no longer me,

but somebody new.

Now,

As I tear out of the body

And toss out the shoes

I’m finally through!

28. The Struggle

Violently,

the tongue wagged

and bumped against the

rotten yellow teeth.

In vain,

the thick red lips

 curled and tightened, then smacked

as the tongue victoriously popped out.

***

29. The Key

Enchanted,

I wandered in my

forgotten childhood paths,

searching for the hidden

key of my golden past.

But,

My hand, holding the rusty key, froze

As the small, shabby door

Stood firmly closed!
