Guest Post from Franki Bagdade: "Top 10 Reasons I Appreciate My ADHD Brain"

Image
Glass half empty or is it really half full? Usually, ADHD is considered a problem. Franki suggests that it has some value in and of itself, such as: 1. Multi-tasking! Have you ever tried to pat your head and rub your stomach at the same time? Or maybe it’s the other way around… Well, I can’t do that! I can, however, watch tv/listen and write this blog, sing a song, and pet my dog! **It’s a myth that those with ADHD can’t focus. In reality, most of us struggle with focusing on one thing at a time or on something that isn’t so interesting. For me that’s the laundry. It’s always the laundry. Watch my tik tok to see what I mean! Read the rest of the blog post HERE  to find out the other 9 benefits of ADHD. It was well worth the time.    Edward Hallowell, M.D.,  Harvard psychologist and  co-author of  Driven to Distraction  and  ADHD 2.0  had this to say about Andrew's Awesome Adventures with His Awesome ADHD Brain : Andrew's Awesome Adventures  is awesome indeed! It is also unique, in that the book combines Andrew's perspective as a child with his mom's perspective both as a mother and as a scientist who's expert on the latest findings on ADHD. Not only unique, this book is also entertaining, well-written, highly informative, and immensely helpful to anyone concerned about ADHD, especially as it occurs in boys who are not disruptive or hyperactive. A superb contribution to the field.  --- For more posts about the Wilcoxes and their books, click HERE . Sign up for the MSI Press LLC newsletter.

Book Review: Kristin Wilcox Reviews Franki Bagdade's "I Love My Kids, But I Don't Always Like Them"

Image
In Psychology Today , Dr. Kristin Wilcox, co-author of the award-winning book,  Andrew's Awesome Adventures with His ADHD Brain , reviewed  I Love My Kids, But I Don't Always Liked Them   by Franki Bagdade. She writes: [Right-sizing expectations] is a major theme throughout the book. Understanding your child and what is reasonable for you to expect from them is crucial to the parent–child relationship. I know my ADHD son will not listen to me if he is hyperfocused on a particular task, yet I still get annoyed when I am talking to him and being ignored. It took some time, and learning about his ADHD, to realize he does not ignore me on purpose; he truly doesn’t hear me speaking to him when his ADHD brain is otherwise engaged. I need to get his attention first or wait until he reaches a break in what he is doing before discussing something with him. I had to right size my expectations for how my son behaves, and how his ADHD brain works. It is all about setting reasonable expec
