From the Blog Posts of MSI Press Authors: Steven Greenebaum on "Posterity Awareness"

Image
Steven Greenebaum, author of the award-winning books,  One Family: Indivisible   and An Afternoon's Dictation, as well as Seeking Balance in Unbalanced Times, shares a recent blog post: The peril of dividing ourselves into “Us” and “Them” is chronicled in Hebrew and Christian Scripture. In Genesis we are told of Cain, a farmer, and his brother Abel, a shepherd. Farmer Cain quarrels with his shepherd brother and kills him. When God challenges Cain, Cain’s famous reply is, “Am I my brother’s keeper?” The implication is  yes , we are our brother’s and sister’s keepers – though our brother be a shepherd and we a farmer. This rejection of “Us” and “Them” is, then, an ancient calling. Read the rest of "Posterity Awareness"  HERE . Awards An Afternoon's Dictation has earned Winner. Author in the News: Spiritual Media Blog Publishes Article by MSI Press Author, Steven Greenebaum

Image
MSI Press author, Steven Greenebaum ( An Afternoon's Dictation , One Family Indivisible , and Seeking Balance in an Unbalanced Time ), recently contributed an article to Spiritual Media Blog. Steven writes, " It took me fifty years, not so much to find myself and embrace what I wanted to do with my life but to discern  how  I might actually go about it. I was born just a few years after World War II, and most particularly for me that meant born just after the Shoah (Holocaust). I was a Jew, born into the relative safety of the United States. Still, the magnitude of the Shoah and the relentless hate it represented was shattering. I also learned that where Jews were allowed to live was limited “even” in the United States. There was something called “restrictive covenants” which could legally prevent a person from renting or selling a house to Jews. Once these were outlawed, “restrictive covenants” were followed by less formal but still onerous “gentlemen’s agreements.” My chil

Daily Excerpt: Seeking Balance in an Unbalanced Time (Greenebaum) - Doing for Others: What I Can Do with the Cards I Have Been Dealt

Image
Excerpt from Seeking Balance in an Unbalanced Time : I love and salute [my wonderful] dedicated friends [who do many things of value for others]. However, the truth of it is, I don’t hold the same cards they do. I’m seventy-two, with a heart condition (I’ve had triple bypass surgery) and have just come off my third (successful!) battle with cancer. I don’t have a lot of energy right now. On top of that, I have arthritis in both my hands that severely limits what I can do. As an example, my driving is limited, and while I used to help out at the food bank, that’s off the table as well. But what I truly want to stress is that what is important is not what I can’t do, but what I can. I love my friends. I admire my friends, and all my brothers and sisters in my home city, as well as my state, as well as my country, as well as my planet, who are able to do so many things that I can’t and are doing them ! Still, I have no interest in spending time regretting what I can’t do. The question i

A Publisher's Conversation with Authors: The Odd Effect of Subsequent Publications

Image
It is Tuesday. Monday's madness is over, and Wednesday will take us over the hump, so Tuesday it is--for some serious discussion with authors. Tuesday talks mean to address authors in waiting and self-published authors who would like to go a more traditional route or who would at least like to take their steps with a publisher by their side.  First book starts to sell again -- and outsells the second and third books (Rose and Sword  - no competitions or awards; How to Live from the Heart; not always the off effect - some second and third books have outsold earlier ones Earlier posts become more popular than current ones. (Greenebaum's older post same day as new post posted) Today's post addresses an interesting phenomenon in which subsequent publications improve the sales of previous publications, sometimes with previous publications outselling the new books. Books in Series It stands to reason that subsequent publications will bring in better sales for all books in a ser
