Image
What is a book jewel? A sometimes-overlooked book with remarkable insight and potential significance. Starting in August, we will share near-daily, as possible, reviews of the monthly book jewel - short, succinct reviews that can be read in 1-2 minutes with links to the reviewer by reviewers whose words are worthy of being heard and whose opinions are worthy of being considered. Sometimes a couple of minutes contains more impressive thought than ten times that many. We will let you decide that. This month's book jewel is  I Love My Kids, But I Don't Always Like Them   by Franki Bagdade.  Amazon review by JL Great Book for Real World Parents This is a funny book with practical advice for real world parents. Franki doesn't pull any punches about her parenting experience and tells it like it is, which is really refreshing. From the Blog Posts of MSI Press Authors: Franki Bagdade talks about what to do when your executive functioning stops functioning

Image
So what happens when your executive functioning stops functioning? Franki Bagdade, author of  I Love My Kids, But I Don't Always Like Them , has some suggestions in her recent blog post: It was a typical Tuesday and I was balancing the needs of two businesses and three children. Juggling meeting with clients 1:1 for Therapy or ADHD coaching while using any gaps in my schedule to respond to emails, schedule social media, write blogs, and do laundry (cause there is always, always laundry to do.) This particular day I found a rare 90-minute gap between clients so I scheduled a very needed physical therapy appointment, as I was still recovering from a broken ankle. As I was going through my exercises my phone started buzzing. An email from a therapy client scrolled across my screen asking for the Zoom link for their session starting in ten minutes. Cue a racing heart and panic. I quickly looked at my calendar, a color-coded HIPPA-compliant modern marvel. There was no appointment for

From FAABConsulting.com (Franki Bagdade) The Nightmarish 9's (or 8 1/2 or maybe even 10!) First of all, I’m sorry. Thoughts and prayers, sorry. It’s going to be ok. Really, they will come back to you, before they hit tween and then teenager land. Let me tell you a story about the first time 9 joined our family. My easy as pie first child hit 9 and turned into a nightmare. She argued about literally everything. She was 9 going on 19 and no that is not funny or cute. To read the full post, click HERE . Guest Post by Franki Bagdade: Self Care Strategies That Won’t Make You Roll Your Eyes!

Image
From Franki Bagdade, author of I Love My Kids But I Don't Always Like Them. Taking care of myself, the dreaded "self-care" topic has been on my mind a lot this week. I say dreaded, because if you are anything like me, sometimes when I hear "self-care" I groan. Self-care can feel like another item on my to-do list that I never seem to get to. It can feel like a burden. I believe this is closely connected to my tendency to have "all or nothing thinking." For example, "a productive workout should raise my heart rate and should last at least an hour. I don't have an hour a day to dedicate to that, so I won't work out at all..." This sounds a lot like negative self-talk, doesn't it? I'm guessing if this "find your calm" challenge appealed to you, you may struggle with all or nothing thinking as well or maybe a child in your home or professional role does. So how does this pertain to self-care? Ex. "I don't
