THE LEADER:
Sensing-Feeling Extravert (S F E)
General Appearance
The most distinctive feature of Leaders (SFEs) is their proud
gaze. They look
around as if they
want to examine a potential battlefield before
making a vital decision.
Often, Leaders have round faces with short or «hawk» noses. Leaders
are great optimists. They live with gusto; they are very invigorating, self-assertive, and sometimes even impertinent.
Leaders frequently wear stylish and impressive clothes. Women prefer bright
and vibrant colors, red is one of their favorites.
I. Personality
Program Channel (e — volitional pressure, drive, influence…)
The most important
thing for Leaders
is being in control of situations, of the space around
them, and being
in the center of events.
People, animals, money, objects — everything is mine, I own and rule it. If I want to, I
can
give them to you,
but
I can take everything away, too!
Leaders have very prominent leadership qualities like self-confidence and energy. If they are asked any question, even a very hard one, they answer assertively, without a shade of timidity. They easily
understand the volitional qualities of people, and eva- luate people’s actions by their swiftness
and boldness.
Here is how one man recalls his college classmate, Tina:
All the girls criticized her bossy tone, but, on the whole, they liked her. Tina was the leader of their crowd — she was the best in managing house- hold problems, she was the best in academic skills, she was the most eye- catching and had the most scandalous reputation in relations with the opposite gender.
The attention and activity of Leaders often switch from one object to another. Nevertheless, they hold on to one dream, which eventually comes true as a result of their persistent work in one direction.
If there are no problems in the company — he is bored. The problems must be created in order to be resolved and
returned back to normal. Maybe, he was
stimulated this
way.
He had
to always play with his force.
II. Productive Channel ( — psychological environment, relations…)
Leaders effortlessly manipulate the people around them — their moods and desires. They like to be in the center of attention, aiming to infect people with their ideas and lead them. Leaders enjoy feeling authority and power.
Leaders are quick to argue, but just as quick to make
peace, practically tugging the puppet strings that are clearly visible to them. Feelings are their strong point. They are able to reveal and
demonstrate them. Leaders derive great pleasure from
their influence over others:
Indeed, Caitlin accepts
signs of attention even from the boys she dislikes, without explaining it. When she got a new boyfriend a while ago, they constantly argued, then made up again. Often, she said, «I left him for good». However, after a while they’d be together
again.
In their youth, education is not the major
concern of Leaders. Romantic adventures are much more appealing. Leaders
passionately get involved in these kind
of escapades. They willingly share their love stories with friends,
showing them photos of their boy- friends or girlfriends.
In her relations with young men, Mallory was keen on showing the initia- tive. Some people
liked this, some were put off by it. I remember whenever she fell for a young man, she literally
went crazy doing wild things.
When she bumped into him, she would say horrible things.
Their tug toward leadership forces Leaders
to obtain a close friend
to whom they can tell everything. In any company, they have at least one such close friend for moral support.
If an acquaintance, even a distant one, is in trouble, Leaders
leap to the rescue without much thoughts. They may give up things
they need themselves — items, money, or medi- cine. They absolutely cannot
stand solitude — they lose all motivation for their actions. Leaders usually
display diplomatic abilities (of course,
this depends on their cul-
tural level).
They are capable of getting delight out of anything: night,
stars, fireworks, going to the movies, horseback riding, and more.
Characterization According to Weak Channel Functions
III. Vulnerable Channel (D — system,
structure, rules…)
Logic
is not the strongest trait of Leaders:
I love him so much, I hate him, —
one college student (a Leader) said with perfect seriousness, not seeing the hypocrisy in this statement. It may not be easy for Leaders to determine
what is needed and what can be sacrificed in a given system. They are reluctant to accept objective basic laws.
Leaders are prone to voluntarism. One can hear
from them
If I don’t like it — I won’t do it!
Sometimes Leaders cannot
even give themselves a reasonable explanation for their impulsive actions. For example, here is a typical episode from
a Leader’s (a woman) life:
Sometimes she’d cheat on her boyfriend with one of her admirers,
whom she detested. Afterwards she’d declare: «I have no idea how this could have happened!
I’m so disgusted! I hope my boyfriend doesn’t find out!»
Leaders are annoyed
by requests to «act reasonably». It is hard for them to bestow a logical
ground for their measures — «I’m strong enough and I can manage it, that’s all!» People of this type attempt to compensate
the
necessity to learn a lot of abstract knowledge («It’s so boring and quite unnecessary!») with specific
tricks.
Leaders are completely sure of themselves. Even if they are doing a job that is com- pletely unsuitable for them, Leaders
are still confident about completing it.
Once I wanted to hang a book shelf on my wall and had to drill several holes for nails. He (a Leader) entered the room, saw what I was going to do, grabbed a drill and began to drill without any preparation. I protested, told him that the shelf would hang lopsided
— he did not care. It happened that the shelf really hung lopsided but the work was done quickly.
That is why Leaders take any tasks and jobs without the slightest hesitation. If Leaders are told that it is better to work on something else, they may simply not understand, «not hear»
it, or not believe it.
IV.
Suggestible Channel ( — premonition, prediction…)
While seeing the outsides of people, objects,
and events, Leaders cannot compre- hend their inner meaning — Leaders sense well, but have poor ability
of penetration into the fundamental nature of everything surrounding them. Due to this, it is hard for Leaders to judge not only others, but themselves and their actual
place in life: as a rule, they overestimate themselves ( — a weak channel). It is hard for Leaders to plan their actions. In the heat of battle, they may reveal impatience and take unnecessary risks. Their assertiveness and enthusiasm can be applied much more successfully if there is someone
nearby who can slow down their unnecessary speed, balance
their chaotic moves with reasonable skepticism, and
show them the true prospects of particular
proj- ects.
Job Options
For people of this psychological type, the most fitting professions are in fields where socializing with people at all levels is a must. This can be politics, service
in the army (preferably in high-ranking positions), art, law, education, or secretarial work. SFEs should not work in scientific fields, especially not in theoretical fields.
They can easily find themselves in business and politics, due to their capability of persuading other people (let enviers call it manipulation!), being assertive and making good impression (in promotion
of products, show business, etc.).
Famous SFEs: actors — Freddie Mercury, Elvis Presley, Elizabeth Taylor; Alla Pugacheva;
politicians — Mikhail Gorbachev and his spouse — Raissa Gor- bacheva, Mikhail Saakashvili, Gerhard Schroeder, Lech Walensa, Napoleon Bonaparte.
