Daily Excerpt: Porn and the Pandemic (Shea) - Preface (a few words about this project)
The following excerpt comes from Porn and the Pandemic (Joshua Shea).
Preface
A few words about this project:
This book was researched and
written between May 5, 2020, and May 21, 2020 during the COVID-19 “Coronavirus”
pandemic. Any events of note regarding the pandemic that took place after May
21, 2020, are not reflected in this book.
All statistics within the book were
accurate at the time of writing and/or publication unless otherwise noted. The
challenge with statistics is getting them from an independently audited source.
Potential conflicts, where obvious, are noted.
Although all of the original
quotations or personal profiles were compiled during the research phase of this
book, names were changed when requested by participants and some details
condensed. All of the participants’ validity has been independently verified.
While told in the first person,
with several references to my former pornography addiction, the aim of this
book is to capture a snapshot of both the rapidly changing world of online
pornography during the COVID-19 pandemic and its effects on both the consumers
and producers of such content. If you are interested in my deeper personal
addiction story, that is available in my first two books.
I have attempted to conduct this
research and present this book free of judgment of pornography, its consumers
and producers. Opinions in this book do not necessarily reflect mine, nor
should be taken as an endorsement or denouncement. Reach your own conclusions.
I want to thank my publisher, MSI
Press, for providing me the opportunity and fast-tracking this project. There
were many 12-to-15 hours days putting this together in under three weeks. Thank
you to everybody who participated in the creation of this book, even those who
may have been left out. Your contributions, be they on these pages or not, did
shape this text.
Finally, thank you to my wife,
Melissa and son, Kaden. While they were painting the house, planting new shrubs
and flowers, opening the pool and other chores I should have been participating
in, they allowed me to social distance enough to get this book done.
