The Story behind the Book: Good Blood by Irit Schaffer
This week's book back story features Good Blood by Irit Schaffer.
from the author --
Irit Schaffer is an author, speaker, physical therapist and healer in California. Her healing journey began in childhood where she was mesmerized by the stories of her father who had supernatural encounters with miraculous healing. Her dad journeyed through the turbulence of the Holocaust, was a Russian POW, imprisoned, suffered gunfire, gangrene infection. There was no medicine to be had and yet he found a resilience that would change the course of his life and through his stories, hers.
Irit says “I would always ask him how he could tolerate the bullets taken out and not scream, and he would say that he had good blood. I would ask him if I had good blood, and he would laugh.”
That story set in motion Irit’s never-ending desire to understand the mind /body connection and the resiliency and resourcefulness of the human body mind spirit, called “Good Blood”.
Irit went on to achieve a Master’s of Science Degree in Physical Therapy from USC. While in PT school, Irit was involved in a serious car accident which resulted in hospitalization. No one could explain what was causing the debilitating pain, so Irit was repeatedly told that she was going to have to learn to live with it!
Then one afternoon, while in severe pain, a voice from within, which she now calls her “wisdom guide”, said, “if your dad healed from six bullets, a gangrene arm and inhumane conditions, then you will heal and you will write a book about your dad’s journey and how healing is always possible.”
Irit immediately called her dad, who lived in Montreal, and shared she was to write a book about him. He replied, “You will heal and you will share your story as well.” At that moment she knew she would heal, and that she would write a book.
Good Blood: a Journey of Healing is a quest into the depth of the human spirit. It is a rich family memoir, especially relevant in today’s climate, and brings forth deeply personal sharing of pain, joy, fear and forgiveness and the power of Good Blood healing.
Dad passed a few years later; he and her mom are two important characters of the book Good Blood: A Journey of Healing. Irit experienced more illnesses and injuries with which she healed from and she now uses to teach about the power of Good Blood and shares this with her clients and in her talks.
Born in Israel, raised in Canada, and now living in the US, Irit Schaffer works in her physical therapy and healing practice in California, where her good blood background, coupled with extensive educational training, has allowed her a unique perspective on the mind body spirit connection.
