The Story behind the Book: Everybody's Little Book of Everyday Prayers (MacGregor)

Image
From the publisher --  The story behind Everybody's Little Book of Everyday Prayers  by Cynthia MacGregor -  This book was originally published as an e-book (and perhaps that is the better format). However, when Cyn came to me after the original publisher went out of business, I saw a happy coincidence in that we had an artist, Zhenya Yanovich , respected and beloved in his native Russia, who was very talented at drawing for children. It seemed like a perfect marriage. So, we offered Cyn a small advance, got Zhenya to draw (his cover drawing is one of my favorites to date), and on we moved. The book has times of being loved and times of being forgotten. It does not help that both author and artist have died, the latter at a very young age and very unexpectedly. Still, the book sells, and more important, it provides prayers for those who may be struggling for words on just about any time. For more posts about Cyn and her book, click HERE . Author Interview: Interview with Cynthia MacGregor - A Posthumous Voice

Image
This interview was taken several years ago but never ended up un the blog until now. Although Cyn has passed (recently), it seems as good a time as any to share her interview (and her legacy). Name: Cynthia MacGregor Book: Everybody’sLittle Book of Everyday Prayers Date of Interview: 8/4/18 Who are you? What do you want readers to know about you? I’m the author of over 100 books, some for adults (mostly nonfiction ), some for kids (mostly fiction). I also do freelance writing for clients (biz writing, blog writing, ghostwriting, etc—just about anything except grant proposals) and editing (books, biz materials—whatever’s needed) Why are you qualified to write this book? Although I’m an ordained New Thought minister, I feel my true qualification for writing the book is not my ministerial status but rather my desire to help other people connect to God as I have, and my God-given ability to write, which enabled me to create the prayers in the book. What is the message of your b

Two Reverends Comment on Everybody's Little Book of Everyday Prayers (MacGregor)

Image
As the title of the blog post says, here are the comments on Everybody's Little Book of Everyday Prayers (Cynthias MacGregor) by two reverends: This book is a keeper. It gets to the heart of our communication with God by offering to any individual or family a collection of suggested prayers for a variety of occasions. The words ring true. The language is simple and from the heart. The prayers are suitable for those of any religious belief, including those who have no affiliation but still believe in God, Spirit, our Creator…whatever name you know Him (or Her) by.             Cynthia MacGregor has provided a much-needed resource for people who want to open their hearts and lives to God but are stuck for the right words. She’s got them…and she shares them here. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to make prayer a meaningful part of his or her life. Rev. Grant A. Houser, M. Th.   I have had the pleasure of previewing Cynthia MacGregor’s new book, Everybody’s Little Bo

Daily Excerpt: Everybody's Little Book of Everyday Prayers - Prayers of Thanks

Image
excerpt from Everybody's Little Book of Everyday Prayers (MacGregor): -  Prayers of Thanks   From prayers of supplication, it’s logical that we move, next, to prayers of thanks. After all, we were all brought up to say, “Thank you,” at the appropriate times, which includes thanking someone who gives us a gift or does something nice for us, and certainly that rule is just as applicable in our ongoing dialogues with God. If we asked Him for something, and we got what we asked for, isn’t it only proper to tell God, “Thank You”? Here are some prayers thanking God in various situations.   Thanking God for answering a prayer/granting a wish   Thank you, merciful God, for answering my prayer/granting my wish. I am truly grateful for Your beneficence and mindful that Your hand is in all that happens, and I have You to thank for all good things that occur in my life. I will not forget You, forget Your power, forget Your beneficence, or fail to appreciate what You have done for me. Amen.

A Publisher's Conversation with Authors: We Lost Her; We Found Her; She's Gone

It is Tuesday. Monday's madness is over, and Wednesday will take us over the hump, so Tuesday it is--for some serious discussion with authors. Tuesday talks mean to address authors in waiting and self-published authors who would like to go a more traditional route or who would at least like to take their steps with a publisher by their side.  Today we take a moment away from our usual content to talk about an end-of-life preparation issue. This issue affects publishers, authors, and authors' families. What happens when an author dies? If all has been taken care of properly in advance, the next of kin inform the publisher, and the published continues to pay out the author's royalties -- to the designated family member. The problem is when not everything is taken care of properly in advance. Consider these two stories, associated with our publishing house, MSI Press. Cynthia (Cyn) MacGregor published Everyone's Little Book of Everyday Prayers with us a number of years

Daily Excerpt: Everybody's Little Book of Everyday Prayers (McGregor): Introduction

Image
Excerpt from Everybody's Little Book of Everyday Prayers Introduction   This book is for you— whatever your religious affiliation—even if you have no religious affiliation at all. This book is for you, whether you’re a Protestant, Jew, or Catholic, a member of one of the many other religions of the world, or an unaffiliated believer, long away from the religion you were brought up in but still a believer in God and desirous of communicating with Him. This book is for you, whether you’re a devout and regular church or temple-goer or a person who hasn’t set foot in a house of worship for years but sees God in every field of flowers and every glorious sunrise—whether you are a person who, in a recent times of trouble or joy, is rediscovering a need to communicate with the Almighty or a person who is raising a small child and wants that child’s life to include a relationship with God, whether or not your child also attends formal worship services.             This is a book mad

Introduction about the book: Sometimes you want to talk to God when it isn’t an occasion or a specified time of day and when there isn’t something happening in your life that you want to ask God for or thank God for. You just feel a need to reach out to Him and talk to Him. You might be inspired by an especially pretty sunset, or there may be something else that you want to say that doesn’t fall under a particular prayer category.                 I’ve always wondered whether maybe God likes those prayers best, when He hears from us at times when we want to talk to Him not to ask him for something, or to pray at a time we think we’re supposed to, but “just because.” Don’t you appreciate the phone call from a friend who says, “I was thinking about you, so I thought I’d pick up the phone and say Hi”? Don’t you appreciate the spontaneous kiss from your child—or from anyone else—that isn’t a Hello kiss, a Goodbye kiss, a Good morning kiss, or a Good night kiss, but is a kiss on the spur o
