Prayers for Everyday Occasions
If you’re a person who likes to offer prayers before meals, at bedtime, or on other such specified occasions, you’ll find prayers here that should suit your needs. Here are prayers for both adults and children, starting with prayers you can offer to God on first arising or from within your bed as you wake up. And doesn’t it help make you feel a little bit more centered to say good morning to God and thank Him for a new day before you get going and face the day’s stresses?
Morning prayer – new day
Dear God, thank You for this new morning, a new start, and a new opportunity, as always. Help me to make the most of the day ahead and not to forget to thank You for whatever blessings this day brings me. Amen.
Dear
God, on this new morning I thank You for new beginnings. Every day is a chance
to start over and improve my life. Please help me to recognize opportunities
when they happen and to make the best use of them for the improvement of my own
life and the betterment of my fellow human beings. Amen.
The
scarlet sun, the sky so red,
Blaze
as they face the day ahead.
May
all my actions in this day
Reflect
Thy precepts and Thy way.
May
my demeanor, actions, too,
Be
all a credit, God, to You.
Dear
God, You’ve made another beautiful morning. I hope the events of the day are as
pleasing to me as the appearance of the sky this morning. But whatever the day
brings, please help me to deal with it with grace and equanimity. And may I
never be so jaded as to fail to appreciate the beauty of Your creations. Thank
You. Amen.
May
I, in all my acts this day,
Not
cause You, God, to look away
And
feel displeasure with my deeds.
That
is the prayer my heart now pleads.
May
I to others prove my worth
And
be a credit to this earth.
But
most of all, in all I face,
May
I reflect your loving grace.
Grace before meals -
adults
Dear
God, Thank You for the food You have put before us, and let us not forget those
who are less fortunate, the many who are hungry, both in foreign lands and
right here at home. May we never fail to be grateful for Your bounty, for even
in lean years we have far more than many others do. We will always try to
remember that and not fail to be grateful to You for your blessings. Thank You.
Amen.
This
table, Lord, which Thou hast set,
Reminds
us, Lord, that Thou hast met
Thy
firm commitment to provide
The
food we need. Now be our guide
And
help us through life’s cares and strife.
We
thank Thee, Lord, for food and life.
O
God, Who puts food on the table to fill our bodies and beauty in the world to
fill our souls, thank You for all Your bounties and Your goodness. Amen.
Dear
Lord, You have already blessed all who are gathered here at this table by
letting us be together and by giving us ample food for sustenance. Please
continue to bless us in whatever ways You see fit, and we will be grateful, as
always, for all Your favors. Amen.
Grace before meals -
children
O
God, our heavenly Father, thank You for watching over us and keeping us from
hunger. Let us never fail to be grateful for the food You give us. Amen.
Dear
God, thank You for all Your blessings and especially for giving us good food to
enjoy and be healthy with. Amen.
God,
it’s You who most we love.
God,
please watch us from above.
Thank
You, God, for this good food.
Thank
You, God, for all that’s good.
Dear
God, thank You for good food, good health, a loving family, and all the many
other blessings You have given all of us. We are truly grateful. Amen.
Dear
God, thank You for my family, my friends, a nice place to live, and the food on
our table. Amen.
Heavenly
Father, smile your face
Down
on us as we say this grace.
Hear,
please, our prayer of thanks sincere
For
food and love of family dear.
Bedtime – adults
Dear
God, at the end of another day I want to thank You for all the good things that
happened today, whether large or small. Please help me to focus on the positive
in my life and not on the negative. Help me to be properly grateful for all
that is good in my life, and help me to do my best to overcome the bad things.
Where there is a way for me to overcome negativity and adversity, help me to
find it. Where there is no immediate way, teach me patience. I trust in Your
wisdom and Your plan for me. May I never disappoint You. Amen.
Dear
God, though I struggle with bills to pay, You have given me a roof over my
head. Though I may not have everything I want, I never have to go to bed hungry
for lack of money to buy food. Though there are things I do not have but wish
for, I have clothes to wear to keep me covered and warm. Though I wish for
times ahead to be better, I thank You for all that I do have, especially when I
think of others in the world who are less fortunate. Amen.
O
Lord, as this day draws to a close, I reflect on all that I did and the ways in
which I could have done better. In the hustle and bustle of the stressful
workday, it is easy to overlook the needs of others. A co-worker, a friend, or a
family member may come to us in need of help, advice, or just a caring word,
and all too often, it is easy to overlook this need in the drive to accomplish
the day’s many tasks. If I have failed to display kindness, care, or concern
for a fellow human, I will try to do better tomorrow. If I have sloughed off
someone else’s needs in order to attend to my own, I will try to do better
tomorrow. If I have displayed a lack of sufficient interest in something
important to someone else, I will try to do better tomorrow. And if I have been
in any way less than ethical, less than moral, or less than honorable in my
dealings with others, I will certainly try to do better tomorrow! Amen.
Bedtime – children
From
within my bed so deep,
As
I wait to go to sleep,
Lord,
I thank You for Your care
With
this short but heartfelt prayer.
Dear
God, please help me to be the kind of boy/girl my parents want me to be so that
I never let them down and never let You down either. I will try hard to be a
good person. Please help me to be strong in my trying to be good. Thank You.
Amen.
Dear
God, thank You for all your blessings. Thank You for parents who love me, other
relatives who love me, too, a school where I can learn what I need to, a safe
place to live, and friends. Amen.
O
God, You are my heavenly Father. Please help me to be an obedient child who
obeys Your laws and wishes as well as those of my father and mother here on
earth. Help me to be a good person—good
to my family, and good to the other people here on earth. Amen.
