From the Blog Posts of MSI Press Authors: Julia Aziz - "When Your Outside Isn't Matching Your Inside"

Image
Julia Aziz, author of Lessons of Labor , writes: Is it just me, or does it feel like the phrase "impostor syndrome" is getting confused and over-used? To clarify, I want to explore what it's like to feel like you're faking it. Maybe people assume you know what you're doing, but you secretly fear that you don't.  First Things First: Being New is Normal If you're new at whatever you're doing and feel like an impostor, then you're probably an honest person on the right track. When we're first learning anything, it's all skills practice. We follow what we've been taught and practice the tools handed down by those more experienced than us. Over time, we integrate what we've learned into our own personality and style until it becomes our own. Everybody gets there by mucking it up along the way.  Impostor Syndrome is for Everyone Impostor syndrome doesn't just affect newbies though. Everyone has days or weeks, even years, where they&

From the Blog Posts of MSI Press Authors: It Ain't Over Till (Yavelberg)

Arthur Yavelberg, author of the multi-award-winning book,  A Theology for the Rest of Us , shares the following column from his blog: “If there is nothing for which you would commit murder, you cannot play the role of  Lady MacBeth! ”  That is how the now aging opera diva,  Maria Callas , dismissed a young, pretty, but not quite ripened, ingenue who aspired to one day take center stage on her own.  She had the voice, yes, and even something of “the look,” but she lacked the life experience to be able to channel the passions depicted by a  William Shakespeare  or  Giuseppe Verdi.   While this production at the  Arizona Theater Company  did not intend a spiritual debate, it is significant that Callas insisted "for which you would commit murder” and not “if you have not murdered.”  In religious terms, Callas was echoing the famous line of Jesus: “But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.“ (Matthew 5:2

From the Blog Posts of MSI Press Authors: Franki Bagdade talks about what to do when your executive functioning stops functioning

Image
So what happens when your executive functioning stops functioning? Franki Bagdade, author of  I Love My Kids, But I Don't Always Like Them , has some suggestions in her recent blog post: It was a typical Tuesday and I was balancing the needs of two businesses and three children. Juggling meeting with clients 1:1 for Therapy or ADHD coaching while using any gaps in my schedule to respond to emails, schedule social media, write blogs, and do laundry (cause there is always, always laundry to do.) This particular day I found a rare 90-minute gap between clients so I scheduled a very needed physical therapy appointment, as I was still recovering from a broken ankle. As I was going through my exercises my phone started buzzing. An email from a therapy client scrolled across my screen asking for the Zoom link for their session starting in ten minutes. Cue a racing heart and panic. I quickly looked at my calendar, a color-coded HIPPA-compliant modern marvel. There was no appointment for

From the Blog Posts of MSI Press Authors: Arthur Yavelberg posts an interesting reflection on integrity ("Not Two")

Image
Arthur Yavelberg, author of the multi-award-winning book,  A Theology for the Rest of Us , reflects this week on the concept of integrity in a post entitled "Not Two:" " You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might." (Dt. 6:5) Most people think of the term "integrity" in the moral context of "honesty," with the opposite being "dishonesty."  That is technically not the case.  "Integrity"--which has the same root as "integer" or "one"--is more about consistency between thoughts, emotions and actions.  In that case, the antonym would be "hypocrisy," which may or not involve telling the truth.  ( read more ) A Theology for the Rest of Us  has earned the following awards: Best Indie Book Award Literary Titan Silver Aware American BookFest Best Books Award finalist For more posts about Arthur and his book, click  HERE . Image
Today's shares blog post comes from Julia Aziz, author of  Lessons of Labor . From Julia: Another round of women's circles (online support group and more) are now forming. She writes: Release & Empower is designed for women who are often attending to other people’s needs. We are all helpers in some way, whether that happens as mental health professionals, healthcare or wellness practitioners, moms, elder caregivers, teachers, or go-to friends. Everyone is used to giving a lot of themselves, and most really crave some space to receive. If this sounds like you, maybe you’re also wanting to: Release negative emotions and shift into a more relaxed, centered way of being regardless of what’s going on around you Feel strong enough to make courageous choices and clear about your next steps Be able to set healthy boundaries and feel heart-centered and balanced in your relationships and responsibilities Appreciate your life and know you are not only good enough, but really worth i
