Book Jewel of the Month: From Deep Within (Lewis) - reviewed by Stiska

What is a book jewel? A sometimes-overlooked book with remarkable insight and potential significance. Starting in August, we will share near-daily, as possible, reviews of the monthly book jewel - short, succinct reviews that can be read in 1-2 minutes with links to the reviewer by reviewers whose words are worthy of being heard and whose opinions are worthy of being considered. Sometimes a couple of minutes contains more impressive thought than ten times that many. We will let you decide that. This month's book jewel is  From Deep Within  by  Susan Lewis, Ph.D., J.D.  From Wayne Stiska on Amazon: For the novice psychologist this is an excellent book. The unwanted and untouchables are Dr. Lewis's patients. Society really doesn't want to deal with them and jails are not the place to be. We really don't want to be around them....too violent....to passive....sometimes needing desparate help but receiving little. We laugh at the term NORMAL but there is a reality it exists.

This month's book jewel is  From Deep Within  by  Susan Lewis, Ph.D., J.D.  From Shannon Brennan on Amazon: This book was so very well written. The doctor’s thoughts and feelings laid bare. Her fears and doubts admitted and her empathy inspirational. I heard an interview with Dr. Lewis on a podcast and immediately bought this book and I’m so glad I did. I’m much less articulate about this than I would like to be, but I’m still bawling because the last chapter was so beautiful it brought me

The book speaks about hopeless, helpless patients that fall through the cracks in our system. It is not only their sad stories of loss or abuse that are compelling, but Dr. Lewis’ speaking about her own responses to them. "Shocking!" and "Real" - Book Review of From Deep Within (Lewis)

Image
The nice thing about reading psychological thrillers is being able to read the last page and think, “That was a riveting read; thank heaven it’s only fiction!” From Deep Within is more than riveting: it’s shocking, eye-opening, often very frightening, but sadly, non-fiction.  . . .  Readers who care about people, who wonder why so many go astray while others live a good and productive lives, will gobble up the pages of this book faster than they would a psychological thriller.
