TLC Workshop: Organizing Your Life into a Memoir

Image
Today we are geting ready for a Saturday afternoon workshop at The Literary Center in San Juan Bautista, CA: Organizing Your Life into Memoir. Many great memoirs never get written because potential authors do not know where to start or where to stop. How to turn your life into story, or how to tell the story of your life, requires understanding "what is story" and "how is it organized." These are the topics that get explored during this workshop. Workshop slides are available for $5 at the MSI webstore -- and they come with the opportunity to ask virtual questions.

Book Review: MidWest Book Review Praises A View through the Fog (McGee)

Image
From MBWR: With the publication of " A View through the Fog ", Bob McGee presents a compelling, poignant, and packed memoir featuring anecdotes that are both moving and hilarious. All human life (and death) is to be found in its pages. With his own distinct voice, McGee opens the door on the dizzying world of the Golden Gate Bridge -- the beauty of both nature and the bridge itself, the camaraderie and friction with colleagues, and the devastating tragedies of suicide jumpers. He brings an entire San Francisco community to the page with a thought-provoking and richly detailed memoir that will resonate with many readers. Read the rest of the review HERE . Book Review: Travels with Elly (MacDonald)

Image
Travels with Elly by Larry MacDonald received a 5-star review by Gisela Dixon at Readers' Favorites. She concludes: I enjoyed reading Travels with Elly and thought it was a witty, thoughtful, and at times humorous travel memoir. Larry has written in detail about the people and places they encountered on their road trip. The book also provides a glimpse into what life could be like living in a trailer, camping and traveling the road in this way. The engaging and fun writing style also incorporates the antics of Elly and pet lovers will surely enjoy it. The photographs complement the narrative and provide a visual representation of the events and places. Overall, this is a good travel memoir of travels across Canada in an RV and travel buffs will definitely enjoy it. Read the full review here: Readers Favorite Review . Larry is also author of RV Oopsies. Travels with Elly can be purchased for 25% discount at the MSI webstore . Use coupon code FF25.

The Story behind the Book: He's a Porn Addict...Now What? (Overbay & Shea)

Image
From the co-author, Joshua Shea -- I never planned on writing a book like this when I was a kid. I knew I was going to be a writer, although I was shooting for screenwriter or at least staff writer at Saturday Night Live. But there it was, my first book, under my name, published by a real company. “He’s a Porn Addict… Now What?” wasn’t the humorous, heartfelt fictional tale I thought would make my name in the world. It was both a memoir and self-help book geared toward the partners of pornography addicts, co-written by Tony Overbay, a licensed marriage and family therapist who was one of the first people to invite me onto his podcast to speak about my former addiction and journey into recovery.   For most people suffering with the disease, it’s a secretive, shameful place and you feel utterly alone. And like any other addiction, the people around the addict get sick, too. My first book, a self-published memoir about the depths of my addictive journey, introduced me to the concept of
