Cancer Diary: Cancer from Toxic Water

Image
I imagine this is widely known, but just in case. Anyone diagnosed with cancer after drinking water (found to be toxic) at Campo Lejeune between 1953-1987 can now seek compensation HERE .  Read more about Cancer Diary posts  HERE . Blog editor's note: As a memorial to Carl, and simply because it is truly needed, MSI Press is now hosting a web page,  Carl's Cancer Compendium , as a one-stop starting point for all things cancer, to make it easier for those with cancer to find answers to questions that can otherwise take hours to track down on the Internet and/or from professionals. The web page is in its infancy but expected to expand into robustness. To that end, it is expanded and updated weekly. As part of this effort, each week, on Monday, this blog will carry an informative, cancer-related story -- and be open to guest posts:  Cancer Diary .   Sign up for the MSI Press LLC newsletter Follow MSI Press on  Twitter ,  Face Book , and  Instagram

Guest Post by Kacee Quinelle (Author of Understanding Personalities Series): Personalities -- Resources for Understanding Them, Coping with Them, Benefiting from Them in Learning and in Life

Image
Whether you slice the diversity pie into socionic types, MBTI types, or use one of the several other personality tests for your pie-cutting tool, the bottom line is that people differ from each other -- and some differ dramatically from each other -- which makes developing happy relationships complex. They also make teaching a class complex, leading a work team complex, commanding a military unit complex. Wherever there are people, complexities abound. These complexities can be managed and even used to advantage IF one understands them. There is much literature on the MBTI; I will not go into that here.  As they say, just google it. What I want to do here is put readers to some excellent but little-known works (theory, observation, research) by specialists published by MSI Press LLC and available wherever fine books are sold -- and at 25% discount at its website, with coupon code FF25. Some of these use the MBTI as a basis of discussion, but most use the socionics model developed and

Our Wonderful Beta Cat Has Brought Four Shy Cats Out of Their Shells

Image
When our alpha cat, Murjan , died, I thought that Happy Cat, Murjan's best pal and truly a pal to all the cats, would take over as alpha, keeping all the remaining six cats in line. That did not happen. Happy Cat earned his name by his mellowness. Our biggest cat at 16 pounds, he is our gentlest.  Integrating cats into healthy cat families and growing happy cat families is indeed tricky business. But it is easier with a beta. Happy Cat has shown us that again and again and again and again. Simone lived under the bed. She had been afraid of her shadow ever since we rescued her from human bullying on the street. Born a stray, she found houses intimidating, but there was safety under the bed. Of course, she would come out to eat, and we would cheer whenever she chose to spend some time in the sun. Then, a couple of years later, along came Happy Cat. While Simone still finds security in being under the bed, she comes out a lot more often and interacts with Happy Cat, the only cat she

Daily Excerpt: Mommy Poisoned Our House Guest (CB Leaver) - The Babysitter

Image
excerpt from Mommy Poisoned Our House Guest The Babysitter When I was smaller, Mommy sent me to church every Sunday morning. The church van always came at 9:15 to pick me up, and Mommy was always rushing to get me ready on time. One Sunday morning a man came to the door at 9:10. Mommy could not believe that the van was five minutes early. She always counted on those five minutes to get me ready. Usually, no one came to the door, so she figured that they must have been sitting there for a while. She started to hurry. “Just a minute,” she said, leaving the door open. She quickly grabbed my suit coat and put it on me. “I just have to comb his hair; it will just be a second,” she called to the man at the door as she darted into the bathroom after a comb. A few seconds later, I looked mighty spiffy. “Almost ready,” she called out again, as she rushed upstairs to get my Bible and offering. Whew! She had never got me ready so fast. “Here he is,” she said, out of breath, as she pushed me out
