Daily Excerpt: A Guide to Bliss (Tubali) - Preface

Excerpt from A Guide to Bliss -

Preface

Fourteen years ago, when I was twenty-three years old, I underwent an intense, world-shattering expansion of consciousness for a few long months. It took place in the midst of a fervent spiritual search. Until then, my three years of seeking had granted me only brief glimpses into broader states of consciousness. Those glimpses far from quenched my ever-increasing thirst. This time, something else erupted within me, or so it seemed. This expansion, which permeated my entire being, did not dissipate, but rather grew day after day without any substantial effort on my part. It seemed like the only thing I was expected to do from then onward was observe the happening and not interfere.

Back then I lived at my parents’ house. For a whole year, I remained enclosed in my small room, only leaving the house from time to time to wander about for hours and curiously examine my new relationship with the world. Of course, at that time I did not define what I was going through as an “expansion of consciousness,” a term whose depth and significance will be clearly presented to anyone who reads this book, as I did not possess the proper terminology. In fact, words were too narrow and frail to contain the immensity of the experience for me, and my familiar structures of thought crumbled and collapsed under the heavy load of this new state. One thing was certain: the way I perceived myself and the essence of my being, my thoughts and emotions, my relationships and aspirations, was irreversibly transformed. In the vastness of these planes of consciousness, there was absolutely no meaning to whatever I recognized as “myself” and “my personal life.” There was only that boundless, infinite presence, all-embracing love, and fragrance of eternity which accompanied me at all times and in all places.

At the end of that year, when I was twenty-four years old, spiritual seekers from here and there initiated communication with me in the hope of being inspired by my new state. Slowly but surely, I became fully absorbed in a new life of teaching and writing in the field of spiritual development. Ever since that year, the central question that has kept me overwhelmingly busy has been: What makes a person transform to the core of his being? What are the ideal conditions for laying the groundwork for complete transformation in a human being?

One certain fact was gleaming before my mind’s eye throughout this journey: as if of their own accord, many mental and emotional patterns that used to mold and condition my personality were disintegrating through the process of the expansion of consciousness day after day. A state of joy and bliss, independent from circumstances or any “other,” was overflowing within my heart, and a new level of fearless and wakeful listening was flooding my brain. This made it obvious that a tight connection existed between one’s stabilization in vast states of consciousness and one’s liberation from confining psychological structures. However, since I did not have the slightest idea what exactly had brought about this process within my own self, I did not know how to properly awaken it in others to the degree that it would take root in them as an irreversible state, as a new stage of consciousness.

Thus, through all of my years of teaching and writing, I sensed that something fundamental was lacking in my communication with those who sought a genuine change in their lives. A bridge was missing, something that would mediate between the “unreachable” state of expanded consciousness and the ordinary state of consciousness, which is overwhelmed with suffering, conflict, and confusion. The classical meditation techniques, as well as the mind techniques I attempted to use, did not bring about the much-sought-after results, and I myself was unable to discover an original solution.

Only five years ago, it became clear that this was a highly positive and necessary kind of frustration since this frustration drove me to develop the White Light Expansion method. As soon as I began trying out this method with those around me, I realized that the bridge had finally been created: whenever a person underwent the process of expansion, which is the heart of this method, we could meet in the subtle planes of consciousness and truly understand each other, owing to the common direct revelation. No one needed me as the mediator of these states anymore since a fully independent way to profoundly and continuously get in touch with them had been revealed. Much more than that: the method provided those around me with the capacity to go through a process similar to my own and to successfully shed stubborn patterns and psychological structures; we all tapped into the ability to apply the effect of the expansion of consciousness to many dimensions of life which are not purely spiritual—therapeutic or creative dimensions, for instance. Spiritual enlightenment had become useful for our everyday lives.

I did not mean to create a method. The White Light Expansion was conceived unintentionally experimenting with the fragments and principles of methods, meditation techniques, and mind techniques that I had come to appreciate throughout the years. While experimenting with these ideas, I sought new elements and principles that could enhance and deepen their potential for transformation. Techniques, such as, the Zero Point Process of Dr. Gabriel Cousens, Brandon Bays’ The Journey, The Work of Byron Katie, the Past Life Regression of the Dutch school of holographic therapy and more were spread out before my mind’s eye. On the other side, forever inspiring me, were the teachings of spiritual masters, such as philosopher Jiddu Krishnamurti’s transmutation of the brain and the esoteric knowledge of the ancient Yogic tradition. Inspiration for the process of expansion, as it is presented in this book, was particularly drawn from the Zero Point Process of Dr. Gabriel Cousens, which is based on defining a structure and expanding it in order to clear away patterns, and from The Journey of Brandon Bays, which aims at discovering, within the depths of negative emotions, the bliss of consciousness.

This method, the White Light Expansion, quite rapidly began to develop and take on a life of its own, launching itself into unique skies full of possibilities. Its philosophical foundations became far more solid, and a few dozen techniques based upon the same principles were formed. Each one held within itself a transformative potential for a particular dimension of life. Thus, in a totally unplanned manner, I started realizing that the process of expansion is applicable to a multitude of life’s dimensions. Accordingly, from one technique aimed at the transmutation of negative emotions, there eventually sprouted more than fifty other techniques. Among them were one (highly effective!) process for dream interpretation, another for the complete experience of the enlightened state, and a variety for creative decision-making in everyday life.

Nowadays, the White Light is a world unto itself, an invitation to an infinite journey within the expanses of consciousness, and undoubtedly, it has not said its last word. In my eyes, its greatest gift, before anything else, lies in its ability to inform us, by means of direct experience, that the potential of our consciousness is, indeed, inconceivable and infinite, and that, in actuality, we fulfill but a minuscule percentage of it. There exists within our consciousness an amazing scope of possible directions and actions—after all, being a human means, first and foremost, owning a consciousness—and through the expansion process, we are finally capable of realizing significant portions of it.

The book you are holding in your hands aims at enabling you to develop and cultivate the skill of the expansion process, which lies at the core of the White Light method. Further, it guides you to apply this process on your own to the various dimensions of life: from the therapeutic and psychological plane to decision-making and to spiritual and meditative elevation. In a sense, the very structure of this book is, in itself, a wholesome course of expansion; it goes from providing us with skills for coping with the mental and emotional world within us to giving us knowledge of healthy and constructive interactions with the world around us and then to giving us the ability to get in touch with the universe and the infinity that encompasses us wherever we go.

In order to learn the method and put it into action by yourself, it is important to obtain a profound and comprehensive understanding of the nature of the expansion process. For this reason, you will find a great deal of theoretical knowledge in this book. At the same time, you will find seven techniques specifically adjusted for self-work, from which you can pick to your heart’s content, on your own free time and according to the present inclination of your heart.

You may perform the techniques in three ways:

1. With the help of a friend or a partner who will meditatively read the form aloud, thus creating for you a relaxed and easy-going space for the inner process. This is by far the simplest and most efficient way.

2. By recording yourself reading the form aloud, and then listening to the recording and following the instructions, either by heart or with pen and paper. You can respond vocally to the instructions, but if this is too odd for you, you can do it silently in your mind. This is an excellent method for self-work.

3. By directly working with the form: reading it, closing your eyes, and then putting the instructions into action. In this way, we also respond to the instructions, either by heart or in writing, vocally or silently. This option is recommended for the advanced, who have already undergone successful and swift experiences in the expansion process.

The purpose of this book is primarily to encourage you to fall in love with this process, which has already changed the lives of many for the better, and consequently, to urge you to practice expansion on a daily basis for the sake of ongoing contact with an inner state of limitlessness, bliss, lightheartedness, creativity, and radical freedom from suffering and conditioning. Each technique in this book is a world unto itself in which one can travel more and more. Yet, at the same time, it is perfectly fine to switch direction every day or to experiment from time to time as you see fit.

Should you find the White Light Expansion a potent method for profound healing and fundamental life-changes, it is likely that you will eventually seek an authorized White Light instructor, with whom you can be responsibly guided into a more meticulous and complex process. The techniques in this book are specifically adjusted for self-work, and for this reason, they are far shorter and simpler than those which the instructors have at their disposal. More than that, we often need someone who can observe us from the outside in order to attain a more objective perception. However, the seven carefully selected techniques in this book are, transformationally speaking, highly potent and hold within themselves opportunities for extensive journeys into the mysteries of the consciousness and its manifold possibilities.

Finally, I would like to convey my gratitude, from the bottom of my heart and consciousness, to Eilon Lester, the White Light Expansion founder, whose love of the method and complete faith in its significance drive him day and night to disseminate it in every way possible. I would also like to thank Eilon Lester’s passionate supporter, Noga Sinai, our workshop organizer, who has already formed countless workshops as well as five schools of the method.

Further, I would like to extend my humble gratitude to the White Light Expansion instructors. Whenever you connect people who come to you with the subtle layers of consciousness, I am almost certain that something at the depths of the universe quivers with excited response!

From the deepest part of my being, I express gratitude to the spiritual teacher Gabriel Cousens M.D., whose intense studies, both in the field of medicine and in the field of Yoga, have allowed me to profoundly comprehend the human’s subtle anatomy, thus establishing the solid philosophical groundwork for this method. In this context, I would like to mention, yet again, the sources of inspiration that supported this method’s development: the Zero Point Process, The Journey, The Work, Past Life Regression, and Krishnamurti. Undoubtedly, without my continuous dialogue with these sources, the White Light Expansion could never have taken root.

And to all of you who read this book, I am grateful for your receptive spirit, which is willing to go as far as to meet one another in the subtlest spaces of the one and only universal mind.
