Book Reviews of Learning to Feel (Girrell) on Amazon
Learning to Feel by Kris Girrell has been a favorite since its release a month ago, spending most days in the Amazon top 100 in its various categories and reaching #1 on hot new books on Amazon.
#1. The author uses his personal journey in learning to feel to expose universal struggles we all can relate to. Great reminder that our emotions are our greatest teachers and this book teaches how to listen to the lessons they are trying to teach.
#2. I never thought taking a journey through the lifetime of a man from boyhood deep into manhood could be so invigorating, enlightening and abundantly full of learnings. In this book Girrell lays his soul out for all to see in such a vulnerable way that one must laugh, cry and experience the world with him. Different authors have tried break the concept of Emotional Intelligence into discreet boxes with labels attached to incomplete personality measures. Others drive home highly theoretical concepts about being vulnerable or spiritual. Still others try to bring large groups together and give motivational talks that fill the audience up... for the weekend but leave them empty again a few days later. This book is different -- replete with citations from every literature and experts from all domains, as well as a combination of honest examples from a lifetime combined with thoughtful reflections and powerful exercises designed to stretch readers out of their "comfort zones" it is a goldmine. You'll find yourself saying, "after all if this author can lay himself so bare, can't I try it?" There is something for everyone. In fact, when managers profess that they want employees to bring their "true authentic selves" to work - this is the book they should be reaching for - a copy on every desk (or in every kindle). Kudos to Kris Girrell for going further than anyone has done before. Thank you.
#3, Amazing journey, this book, you will learn something.
#4, "Learning to Feel" by Kris Girrell takes you on an intimate journey through the author's life, helping us uncover why we sometimes close off our emotions. Mixing personal stories with thoughtful research, the book lets you connect with the author's vulnerability, and in the process, understand yourself better. It's like a friend sharing their experiences while also giving you insights from studies. I definitely recommend this book for anyone who wants to dive deep into their emotions and learn from someone who's been there.
#5. n 20 years of doing work with leaders, I’ve only ever pointed people to Dan Goleman’s original book on EI. I never had a book that captured the message in the way it was needed for people to hear and want to change their personal efforts to grow. Until now. Kris’ book is fantastic and takes you on a journey with emotional intelligence that has been missing. With this book in hand, you’ll have personal a-ha moments and if you work in this space, will be sending everyone a copy. It’s a must read and refreshing, modern reflection on a topic we all could benefit learning more about.
#6. Powerful and thought-provoking. The vulnerability of the author and using his personal experiences to connect to feelings.
#7. Kris Girrell has decades of experience as a coach and leadership expert but this is not a dry academic read! In this book he shares his own journey with feelings from such a vulnerable and authentic place that it’s hard to put down. This book weaves together research, personal experiences and provocative questions in a way that’s easy to understand and very engaging. Kris is a very good writer. I’d highly recommend Learning to Feel for anyone wanting to understand themselves and others better.
