11. Mending

With gold and silver

threads,

my dreams I mend.

Patch up the grey

thoughts,

then embellish them

with bright hopes.

12.  The Field of Hope

In the field of my mind,

I weeded out the fears,

sowed seeds of hope,

then watered them

with tears of joy.

***

 

13.  The Mask

The sad look

faded out.

The pale mask

shriveled and shrunk.

Then, suddenly,

it dropped.

Undisguised,

fingers danced upon

the bare flesh with grace.

Lips twisted and curled.

Then, cautiously,

drew a happy face!

***

 

14. The Shadow

A laugh!

A carefree laugh

rang in my ear.

Arms excitedly

flapped in the air.

Feet danced – lively –

down the street.

Gazing at the

reflected figure

-on the pavement –

to my surprise

I realized it was me!

***

15.  How

How hard must I try

to break through the iron bars?

How far must I go

To reach a silver star?

How mad should I be

to search for the sun?

How wild must I get

to have the urge to run?

16. Free Bird

That wild bird in me

is no longer entangled by chains,

but free!

Flying from one tree

to another,

leading a life that’s carefree.

 

***

 

17.  Cocoon Shell

The fine woven

silky thread

violently shook,

tightened, and

broke off.

Cautiously,

a pair of blue eyes

peeped out.

Then, determinedly,

brushed its worries off.

 

 

18. Waves

Waves of sadness

fling me into the depth

Of the sea with a roar…

Waves of happiness

Lift me up, draw me back

To the shore.

19. Cleaning Day

Restlessly,

I stir bad memories

with my broom…

Swiftly,

sweep them

Out of the room.

***

 

20.  Freedom

The weary swollen toes

wiggled and squirmed

and desperately tore their way out

Of the old leather shoes.

Exposed,

they merrily twisted and twirled

then wildly escaped

into the wide bright world.

It is Tuesday. Monday's madness is over, and Wednesday will take us over the hump, so Tuesday it is--for some serious discussion with authors. Tuesday talks mean to address authors in waiting and self-published authors who would like to go a more traditional route or who would at least like to take their steps with a publisher by their side.  Today's post looks at the difference between book marketing and book promotion, two terms that are frequently confused. Leading to the confusion is that some of the same activities are needed for both. In fact, good marketing is dependent upon good promotion. Perhaps the essential difference is that marketing focuses on sales, and promotion focuses on awareness --  noting that without awareness, sales generally do not happen.
