Daily Excerpt: How to Stay Calm in Chaos (Gentile) - Introduction

Image
excerpt from  How to Stay Calm in Chaos by Julie Gentile Introduction How are you? Really, how are you doing? How are you feeling emotionally, physically, spiritually? At the time of this writing, we are living history. Most of the world is under some level of a stay-at-home mandate and/or physical distancing due to a global crisis that has swept the planet. As my 4-year-old daughter has reminded me almost daily since this began, “Everything is closed.” She’s right. These days are different. Parks, schools, libraries, and restaurants are closed. Who would have thought you would have to be aware of how many people will be outside at the same time as you when you go for a walk around the block? The uncertainty during these unusual times can make you feel a range of emotions in the span of a few moments—from helpless and hopeless to overwhelmed and exhausted to disappointed and frustrated to joyful and hopeful—but definitely not calm. This situation is new for everyone, and everyone

Daily Excerpt: 108 Yoga and Self-Care for Busy Mamas (Gentile)

Image
Excerpt from  108 Yoga and Self-Care Practices for Busy Mamas  by Julie Gentile -   How to Use This Wellness Guide  This book was designed by a working mama to inspire other modern mamas to live well in this high-speed world. So many mothers are rush ing through life, looking down at their phones, stressed, worried, anxious, pressed for time, and trying to do it all—to be a good mama, a good part ner, a good employee, a good friend, and more. Too many mamas are sac rificing self-care. I lived this life, too. Something had to give, so I gave to myself. I took charge of my self-care and so can you. In this book, each topic has a Write about it section, to record your thoughts, and a Practice it section, so you can practice a yoga pose or se quence, an Ayurvedic practice, meditation, a breathing exercise, or anoth er wellness practice related to the topic in order to help you live a vibrant life. These beautiful, life-changing practices don’t take time; they give you time. Discov

Why Your Self-Care Can't Wait Until the New Year (guest post by Julie M. Gentile)

Image
When was the last time your mind and body felt amazing, when your thoughts and words flowed effortlessly and you moved energetically and gracefully? The added stress and pressure during the holiday season from the extra things that need to get done—shop for the perfect gifts and then find time to wrap them, set goals for the New Year and then follow-through with them—make it easy to put off self-care during the busiest time of year. My question to you: Why wait until January 1 to start taking better care of yourself? Life is happening now. In this very moment, with this very breath. Thinking that you’ll wait to be happy when you lose weight or you’ll wait to be happy when you have your dream house or you’ll wait to be happy when you retire does not offer you the health and happiness you deserve today. Your self-care can’t wait for you to pay attention to it until tomorrow. Self-care is needed now—your mind and body desperately crave it. From the list below, choose on

May is the Month for Moms to Begin Prioritizing Self-Care: Guest Post from Julie Gentile

Image
From Julie Gentile -  May Is the Month for Moms to Begin Prioritizing Self-Care May is an important month for moms. In honor of Mother's Day, Mental Health Awareness Month and National Women's Health Week, May 14 to May 20, there are many reasons to start an exercise routine you've been thinking about to help you energize, or to spend an afternoon at your local bookstore to restore and reset.  As a yoga teacher, author and full-time working mom, I've learned over and over again that there is no such thing as a perfect schedule. Juggling multiple responsibilities is all about the art of prioritizing what needs your attention now. I structure my day by prioritizing what matters most, and self-care is at the top of my list.  I wrote my first book,  108 Yoga and Self-Care Practices for Busy Mamas ,  during the evenings when my youngest child was a baby. When my second book,  How to Stay Calm in Chaos: An Everyday Self-Care Guide , was published a year and a half later, we
