The Story behind the Book: 10 Quick Homework Tip

Image
We cannot tell the back story of 10 Quick Homework Tips without telling the story of is sister book, 365 Teacher Secrets for Parents . So, here is the link to that back story , which we shared last Sunday Back Story of  10 Quick Homework Tips by Cindy McKinley Alder & Patti Trombly [Please do read the back story for 365 Teacher Secrets for Parents to learn how Cindy and Patti met.] A few years ago, after listening to the frustrations of parents trying to find time for everything as well as struggling to work with their kids at home more during the pandemic, Patti and I decided to create a “quick tip” book to help. It seemed homework issues were especially overwhelming and challenging for busy parents.   So, we worked together again and wrote a short book on   easy ways parents could help ease the frustrations of homework battles.   10 Quick Homework Tips was not as time-consuming, but just as fun for us to write.   It feels great to share so many decades of our practical, h

Book Review: Parenting in a Pandemic (Liz Bayardelle) by Literary Titan

Image
Parenting in a Pandemic  is the book we all needed and for which we never dreamed we would have to search. Bayardelle breaks down a tremendous amount of information in a short, well-organized, and engaging read. I highly recommend Bayardelelle’s guide to any parent looking to navigate the waters of parenting in this pandemic while waiting patiently on a return to what may be our new normal. 5 stars Read the rest of the review on Literary Titan .  Read more posts about Liz Bayardelle and her books HERE .

The Story behind the Book: Old and On Hold (Cooper)

Image
Today's back story is about the book,  Old and On Hold  by Bertha Cooper . From the publisher The story behind this book and 14 others like it share one important thing in common: they came out during the pandemic. Not only did they come out at that time, but they were planned as a set of books (by various MSI Press authors with special expertise related to various aspects of the pandemic). Bertha, who had earned the recognition as "best new voice in health and fitness" with her book, Women, We're Only Old Once , knew a lot about aging, and older folks were particularly hard hit by COVID at that time.  Many of the insights in the book are true even now. After all, many retirees get caught holding in place for many reasons, not just the pandemic. Some useful thoughts and insights shared in this book are true at any time. Book available at 25% discount with code FF25 at msipress.com/shop. Read more about Bertha and her books HERE . Sign up for the MSI Press LLC newsle

Book Alert: Seeking Balance in an Unbalanced Time (Greenebaum)

Image
Released this week. Seeking Balance in an Unbalanced Time by Rev. Steven Greenebaum. The notion of a worldwide pandemic has been ripped out of the realm of "someday" and dumped in our laps. We can feel lost. How do we cope? How do we find our way? How can we find and keep some kind of balance as we walk this pandemic tightrope? This short book helps us find that balance as well as offering an affirming path forward. It helps us understand that the crisis humanity is facing is a family crisis. It helps us to take care of ourselves, offering concrete, positive examples. It helps us to keep our balance by also giving concrete positive examples of how we can help each other. Guest Post from Franki Bagdade (I Love My Kids, But I Don't Always Like Them): The Day I Learned I Was Really Important, Just Not in the Way I Thought

Shared from Jackie's blog:  The Day I Learned I Was Really Important, Just Not in the Way I Thought The past week or so has been tough! Blog subject, or maybe book subject tough. On Tuesday I picked up a full mug of coffee and felt a familiar dull ache. This ache sent a panicked message to my brain. Oh crap! I’m getting a flare. My "tell" that a fibro flare is coming is this dull achy hand and wrist pain. So uncomfortable that I can’t wrap my fingers around a glass or even hold my phone without making it worse. I quickly calmed myself with the reminder that I hadn’t had a flare up that lasted more than a few days in over three years. Whatever I was doing, meds, supplements, diet, exercise-ish (being honest here), was keeping my symptoms at bay! For the rest of the day I took it easy on my joints and tried my best to stay calm. Later that my evening my shoulders and neck started to ache but again I reminded myself that it should all be over soon. I thought about how luck

Daily Excerpt: Staying Safe While Sheltering in Place (Schnuelle et al.) - You, Me, Staying at Home (Coping, Seriously)

Image
Excerpt from  Staying Safe While Sheltering in Place  (Schnuelle, Adams, & Henderson) (written as one of our pandemic books, much of the advice is pertinent even now) From chapter: You, Me, Staying at Home (Schnueel) Coping, Seriously As soon as practicalities were largely handled and as time stretched out, the themes that came up repeatedly boiled down to, “How do I not lose my mind?” Keeping one’s sanity lies in realizing this is an abnormal situation. In unprecedented circumstances, it is actually normal not to know what the hell is going on. We don’t live through world-wide novel virus pandemics\ often, and aren’t we all so thankful for that? In an abnormal situation, the usual routines will probably not work.  We have to do something new. Adapting to what is happening right now, instead of trying to impose the old ‘normal,’ will probably work better. Get relentlessly practical and find a new normal: here is what we can do today. Now we go to school online. Now we order gro
