Daily Excerpt: I Love My Kids, But I Don't Always Like Them (Bagdade) - "Carma's Story" from "Right-size Your Expectations"

Excerpt from I Love My Children, But I Don't Always Like Them Carma’s Story Every family has to figure out the expectation game and how each child may respond to surprises, frustration, disappointment and even too much excitement. As children grow up, and their behavior evolves, their capacity to handle change and respond to unwelcome triggers may also vary, depending on a number of factors.   "Can We Do Even Better When It Comes to Mental Health?" ask Franki Bagdade, author of I Love My Kids, But I Don't Always Like Them , in an article by the same name in American Camping Association Magazine.  She writes: "Running a camp is one of the world’s most awesome responsibilities. Awesome, because what’s a cooler job than running a camp? Also awesome because the responsibility is so big that it can be overwhelming. When I served on the team of directors of one of the largest residential camps in North America, having made it to midsummer, I often found myself standing in one of the most beautiful spots in camp and finally taking a deep, restorative breath — the one everyone practiced in the great mindfulness workshop during staff training. And l felt relaxed — while also starting to reflect on how we could do even better the next summer." I Love My Kids But I Don't Always Like Them (Bagdade) Earns Recommended Rating by US Review of Books

Image
US Review of Books recently reviewed Franki Bagdade's book, I Love My Kids, But I Don't Always Like Them , and gave it a RECOMMENDED rating.   Gere is an excerpt from the review: " This book is full of enlightening ideas on how to best approach parenting at its most difficult moments. However, what stands out in Bagdade’s writing is her insightful approach to parenting each child in the home differently. Bagdade emphasizes that because all children are different, they should be parented differently according to the structures and expectations that work best for them. Although this idea sounds overwhelming, the author explains how to achieve this in a way that leaves parents feeling confident and hopeful" Read the remainder of the review HERE .
