Precerpt from Grandma's Ninja Training Diary: Bodies Don’t Just Fall Apart with Age
People love to say, “Well, everything hurts when you get older.”
As if aging is some kind of warranty expiration date.
But here’s the secret no one tells you:
Bodies don’t fall apart because of age.
They respond to how we treat them.
I’m not talking about kale smoothies or gym memberships.
I’m talking about the tiny, everyday choices that either support your body or grind it down.
🌼 Sleep matters
If you spend eight hours a night in a position your spine hates, your spine will complain.
If you spend eight hours in a position your spine likes, it will stay quiet for decades.
Ask me how I know.
🌼 Movement matters
Not “exercise.”
Movement.
Scooching, lifting toddlers, climbing stairs, carrying laundry, reaching, bending — that’s functional strength training.
Your body adapts to what you ask of it.
If you ask it to move, it stays capable.
If you ask it to sit still, it stiffens.
🌼 Listening matters
Pain isn’t the enemy.
Pain is information.
“Tight” means keep going.
“Sharp” means stop.
“Sleepy ache” means rest and warmth.
Your body is not mysterious — it’s chatty.
🌼 Environment matters
Most people force their bodies to fit their furniture.
A ninja adjusts the furniture to fit the body.
Beds, chairs, pillows, work surfaces — these are not moral tests.
They’re tools.
Use them.
🌼 Consistency matters more than heroics
You don’t need to be a gym warrior.
You just need to avoid doing the one thing that breaks most bodies:
Ignoring discomfort until it becomes injury.
A ninja doesn’t bulldoze through pain.
A ninja adapts.
🌙 The punchline
If your body feels good at 60, 70, 80, or beyond, it’s not luck.
It’s the cumulative effect of thousands of tiny decisions:
- How you sleep
- How you move
- How you rest
- How you listen
- How you adapt
Aging doesn’t break people.
Inattention does.
And the good news is:
It’s never too late to start paying attention.
