  One of the most effective ways teachers can manage an open‑architecture curriculum is by shifting part of the preparation burden to the learners. Instead of the teacher searching for articles, the students locate the texts they want to read on the topic currently being studied. This keeps the classroom rooted in authentic materials and honors the OACD principle that learners should help shape the content of their own learning. But students often struggle with this step. They don’t yet have a reliable sense of what they can understand at roughly 80%. Their internal “level check” is fuzzy.
