🌅 Morning Prayer: Who Was Bartholomew?
Bartholomew is one of those quiet apostles—his name often mentioned, his story seldom told. Yet silence can be its own kind of witness. In the Gospels, Bartholomew appears among the Twelve, sometimes under another name: Nathanael , the man whom Jesus saw “under the fig tree.” When Philip told him, “We have found the one Moses wrote about,” Nathanael’s skepticism was honest—“Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” But when Jesus spoke to him, recognizing his heart, Nathanael answered with sudden faith: “Rabbi, you are the Son of God.” That moment of recognition—of being seen and known—became the foundation of his discipleship. Bartholomew followed Christ not for fame or miracles, but because he had been understood. Tradition says he carried the Gospel eastward, perhaps to Armenia or India, and met a martyr’s death.
