  Today's tip for parents from two talented teachers comes from  365 Teacher Secrets for Parents  by Cindy McKinley Alder and Patti Trombly.   #69 Before, During and After   When books are opened you learn that you have wings. ~Helen Hayes   Before, During and After is a strategy to help prepare your child to read a book, keep her engaged while reading, and to check for comprehension after she’s done with the book. Try these ideas and learn why they are helpful:   Before your child reads a book:   ●       Have her look at the cover, back cover, title and pictures within the book. Ask her to predict what might happen in the book. (While she is reading, she will be checking to see if her guesses were right and therefore checking her own comprehension.) ●       Ask her to recall her prior knowledge (what she already knows).
