International Tiger Day: Honoring the Spirit of the Striped Guardian

  Today, July 29th, marks International Tiger Day —a global call to protect one of the planet’s most iconic and endangered species. But for some of us, the tiger is more than a conservation symbol. It’s a personal archetype. In several traditions, the tiger is my spirit animal. I’ve been told—more than once—that I occasionally behave like one: fierce when needed, protective of my territory, and unafraid to speak truth with precision. I take that as a compliment. 🌏 A Glimpse into Tigerland: Vladivostok’s Wild Heart Years ago, I had the rare opportunity to drive through the tigerland outside Vladivostok , in Russia’s Primorsky Krai. It’s one of the last strongholds of the Amur tiger , the largest and rarest of all tiger subspecies. The region’s reverence for this majestic creature is woven into its culture—bronze tiger statues, Tiger Day parades, and even a “Tiger Quest” that guides visitors through art installations and conservation sites.
