Morning Prayer — Mary, Queen and Daughter of David

  Mary is called Queen not because she ruled anything, but because her Son does. In the old kingdom of Israel, the queen was not the king’s wife; it was the king’s mother —the gebirah , the woman who stood beside the throne as counselor, intercessor, and honored presence. When Jesus is named Son of David and King , Scripture quietly hands Mary that ancient title: Queen Mother . It is not a crown of power. It is a crown of relationship. And that relationship is rooted in the long, winding story of David’s family. Joseph is named in the royal line—David through Solomon—giving Jesus the legal claim to David’s throne. Mary, very likely descended from David through another branch, gives Jesus the bloodline of David. Two genealogies, two paths, one promise fulfilled. But the deeper truth is this: Mary’s queenship is not about lineage at all. It is about availability . She is Queen because she said yes to God’s call.
