Cancer Diary: TVA and Who Would Have Thunk?

Well, some good news in the making -- and surprising as well. One study has found Red Meat and Dairy Linked to Enhanced Anti-Tumor Immunity, Study (msn.com). So, a cheeseburger is now a good thing, right? (But don't char it -- that has been found to be carcinogenic.) In the case of not being able to win for losing, this actually looks like a winner.

Why? Well, this Study finds diet-derived trans-vaccenic acid boosts anti-tumor immunity (news-medical.net). TVA is what the study is talking about, and TVA can be found in meat and milk.

And if you want the science behind it, a recent article in NatureTrans-vaccenic acid reprograms CD8+ T cells and anti-tumour immunity | Nature, should tickle your science bone with all the terminology you can handle.

Blog editor's note: As a memorial to Carl, and simply because it is truly needed, MSI Press is now hosting a web page, Carl's Cancer Compendium, as a one-stop starting point for all things cancer, to make it easier for those with cancer to find answers to questions that can otherwise take hours to track down on the Internet and/or from professionals. The CCC is expanded and updated weekly. As part of this effort, each week, on Monday, this blog will carry an informative, cancer-related story -- and be open to guest posts: Cancer Diary.
