Caturday: Sophia's First Christmas
This year was Sophia's first Christmas! She was memorized by and a little in awe of the Christmas tree.
But she was all in for Christmas dinner!
Sophia has some odd coloring. We believe that she is principally Sokoke, but who knows how those genes made it to the Central Coast of California where there are no reported Sokokes -- and, too, there have to be other blends since she is a street cat rescue. Still, people always remark, "I've never seen that combination of colors before." Nope. It is extremely rare for this area.

Now, what about after Christmas? What after-Christmas care should be taken with natural Christmas trees for multi-cat homes? Here are some things to consider:
After Christmas, it's important to care for your natural Christmas tree properly, especially in a home with many cats. Here are some tips to ensure safety and cleanliness:
Remove Decorations: Carefully take down all ornaments, lights, and tinsel. Ensure no small pieces are left behind that cats might swallow.
Dispose of the Tree Safely: Check your local community for tree recycling programs or curbside pickup services. Trees can also be chipped and used as mulch.
Clean Up Needles: Natural trees shed needles, which can be harmful if ingested by cats. Sweep or vacuum the area thoroughly to remove any fallen needles.
Check for Sap: Pine sap can be sticky and irritating for pets. Clean any sap from floors, carpets, or furniture using a pet-safe cleaner.
Monitor the Tree Stand: If you had a tree stand with water, ensure it is emptied and cleaned. Standing water can breed bacteria and mold, which are harmful to pets.
Inspect for Residual Hooks or Wires: Make sure no hooks, wires, or other small items are left behind that could pose a choking hazard.
Freshen Up the Space: Consider using a pet-safe air freshener or essential oil diffuser (with cat-safe oils) to eliminate any lingering tree smell that might attract your cats to the area.
