Understanding the Heart (2)

Wisdom comes through the heart, not through the mind. The mind only processes it. The essence and depth of understanding is developed through the heart center.  Too often, someone will use his heart indiscriminately and seduce another person with its energy. This is a misuse of energy. An example is projecting love onto someone who mistakes it for personal love and becomes hurt as a consequence.

Therefore, in using the heart, there needs to be a sense of responsibility. It is necessary to establish ethical practices; otherwise, the heart will close.  With the use of the heart comes a strong desire to help others. Again, it has to be done with discrimination; otherwise, you may be interfering with another person’s life. The need to help is always very positive, but the need may be coming only from you, not the other person.

First, it is important to be certain that the person you want to help really wants help. Often this is not the case, even in the worst situations. It’s best to always ask. When you ask, be aware if the answer is coming from the person’s heart. If it is, then it’s a true answer. Someone may not want to hurt your feelings by refusing, so you should try to make the offer loose enough that the person can easily say no.

The heart is used to regulate feelings. It is important to recognize the source of these energies and how they operate through the heart. To begin with, the heart is like a fine-tuning fork. It is sensitive to every feeling and picks up on hidden feelings. The more you use it in relating to others, the more sensitive it becomes. Every time you use your heart, it becomes more capable of discerning correctly.

This discernment is essential if you are to work with your heart in relationships. In other words, the more you discover the hidden meaning of what someone says, the easier it becomes to discover the truth.  With each effort to use the heart there is a definite feeling of attunement. This attunement is an energy flowing through the heart from a source called “the archetypal wise person,” or what is referred to in this book as the Higher Self.

The enlightened part of your unconscious has the understanding and discernment to know the proper way to behave in any situation. This part is always geared to you and your personal process. For example, if you are thinking of changing your job and you have two job offers and can’t decide which one to take, the Higher Self can look at both situations and determine the best one for you.

This advice can flow through your heart in an intuitive feeling of knowing, or it can be a literal knowing that comes through your mind. When you use your heart for understanding, it is a different process from using your mind. For example, when you use your mind to decide a given question, you simply think about it and decide. To use your heart, take the question and imagine placing it into your heart. Let the question go, and then wait for the answer to come either from your mind or from an inner feeling. The answer will be much deeper, taking in many more factors, when it comes from your heart.
