🐾 Caturday Chronicles: The Memory Foam Pee Incident
This week’s Caturday post is dedicated to every cat owner who’s walked into a room, sniffed the air, and muttered, “Oh, no.”
🛏️ The Scene
Memory foam pillow.
Saturated.
The culprit?
One of my two big male cats — locked in a literal pissing contest.
(Like men sometimes, but with fewer words and more territorial drama.)
🐈 Why do they do this?
- Territory wars: “This pillow smells like you. Now it smells like me.”
- Stress or change: New furniture, new routines, new smells — all fair game.
- Medical issues: Always worth ruling out.
- Revenge pee: Yes, it’s a thing. No, it’s not rational.
🧽 What to do immediately
- Blot, don’t rub.
- Saturate with enzymatic cleaner — not vinegar alone.
- Let it sit.
- Blot again.
- Cover with baking soda.
- Vacuum.
- Air dry for 24–48 hours.
💀 When to let go
If:
- The pillow was fully saturated,
- And it sat for more than a day,
- And the smell still lingers after cleaning…
It’s time.
Memory foam traps odor deep in its soul.
You’re not just sleeping on a pillow — you’re sleeping on a grudge.
🛡️ Prevention tips
- Waterproof pillow protectors: Cheap, silent, life‑saving.
- Keep peace between rival males: Feliway diffusers, separate zones, and maybe a referee.
- Watch for repeat offenders: Peeing once is a message. Peeing twice is a pattern.
💬 Final thought
Sometimes Caturday isn’t cute.
Sometimes it’s a forensic investigation.
But we love them anyway — even when they turn memory foam into a battlefield.
