San Juan Books Presents Its Special Authors: Meet Arthur Yavelberg

Image
San Juan Books is the hybrid division of MSI Press LLC. It allows first-time writers to become published in a traditional way through the reduction of risk by sharing publication costs. All other publishing features are traditional in nature, and most SJB authors go on to be offered traditional contracts for their subsequent books. SJB publications are available as paperback, hard cover, and e-book versions. SJB authors' books very much hold their own against their contemporaries in the traditional publishing division. Indeed, a number of them have outsold their traditional compatriots. Today, San Juan Books presents author Arthur Yavelberg. A teacher and administrator in public and private schools for close to 40 years, Arthur Yalevberg has dedicated his career to making complicated concepts and issues accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds. While most of his students were middle schoolers, he has also been involved in teaching World History, American History, and Comp

Introducing Arthur Yavelberg, MSI Press Author

Image
A teacher and administrator in public and private schools for close to 40 years, Arthur Yalevberg has dedicated his career to making complicated concepts and issues accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds. While most of his students were middle schoolers, he has also been involved in teaching World History, American History, and Comparative Religion in high school and adult education programs around the country. Where many academicians seem to delight in abstruse jargon that confuses more than it explains, his goal has always been to present information in a manner that does not intimidate but instead helps the student understand and draw independent conclusions.  Besides his professional career in education, Arthur also had the opportunity to live and teach in Singapore for two years. A microcosm of all Asia--with temples, churches, synagogues, and mosques mere blocks from one another--Singapore is a wonderful place to delve into many different religious traditions. Further

In the wonderful fantasy movie, “ The Wizard of O z,” the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, the Lion and Dorothy are all seeking something they believe is lacking: a brain, a heart, courage and the way back home.  While they lacked the terminology to discuss their despair as “existential angst,” their predicament is certainly not rare in spiritual literature.     In the  Hindu  classic, “ The Bhagavad Gita ,” the hero,  Arjuna , is forlorn at the prospect of going into battle against enemies who are all relatives.  Anticipating so much death and destruction, he is tempted to turn away.  Only when  Krishna  reminds him that he

In his new book, “A Theology for the Rest of Us,” local writer Arthur Yavelberg tackles all these types of questions in the hopes of providing some religious illumination in these uncertain times. Now that’s not to say the book aims to convince anyone of anything, but by examining various religions’ insights on topics like free will, the identity of the creator, and why evil exists, Yavelberg provides a map for spiritual awareness.  Yavelberg, who has worked as a teacher of history and comparative religion, as well as the head of Tucson Hebrew Academy, describes the book as “the sum total of his religious theological insight over a lifetime.” But f

From the Blog Posts of MSI Press Authors: Arthur Yavelberg - "Not So Far Away"

Image
Today's shared blog post comes from Arthur Yavelberg, author of the multiple award-winning book, A Theology for the Rest of Us . In "Not So Far Away," Arthur writes: On the flight on the way back from Europe I was able to watch two movies. One was “ Hypnotic ” about a sinister conspiracy to use the mind’s power to control others through the telepathic creation of “hypnotic constructs.” The other was “ Corner Office ,” which depicts a middle manager who could be extremely effective in his work and personal life—but only in the context of a dignified, comfortably furnished corner office that significantly did not have any windows. Alas, all his co-workers saw was him standing zombie-like in the hall.  Read the rest of the post HERE .  Awards Best Indie Book Award Literary Titan silver award American Bookfest Best Books Finalist To read more posts by and about Arthur and his book, click  HERE . Author in the News: Arthur Yavelberg Publishes Guest Article in Tucson Daily Star

Image
On October 8, MSI Press author, Arthur Yavelberg, author of A Thoelogy for the Rest of Us,   contributed an article to the Tucson Daily Star about...well, you can read it here and see what it is about: "A Rose by Any Other Name" by Arthur Yavelberg While I am not a Catholic, I've never had a problem with the Trinity. The idea that there is one essence that manifests itself in different forms in different contexts was no challenge to me. The same is true of Krishna in Hinduism, by the way. Depending on the seeker--the nature of the seeker and the surrounding culture--Krishna could take any form that would be positively received. When I was teaching in Chicago, it was not false humility to recognize, for example, that basketball great Michael Jordan and I could say exactly the same thing, but Jordan would get rapt attention while I would be lucky if there was a drowsy yawn. In the Bible, when Moses wants to know the name of God he should use when addressing the Israelites i
