Revelation: What It Is and Is Not

 

Every religion speaks of revelation — the moment when the divine discloses truth to human consciousness. Yet revelation is often misunderstood. It is not a private possession, nor a spectacle meant to prove spiritual superiority. It is a moment of encounter that transforms both the receiver and the community.

✨ What Revelation Is

  • A disclosure of divine reality — not invention, but unveiling. Revelation reveals what already is, though unseen.

  • A call to transformation — authentic revelation changes the receiver’s life toward humility, compassion, and service.

  • A communal gift — even when received by one person, revelation ultimately belongs to the community. It calls others toward truth, not toward the messenger’s ego.

  • A deepening of faith — it harmonizes with the tradition’s moral and spiritual core, never contradicting its essence.

🚫 What Revelation Is Not

  • Not self-exaltation — if it glorifies the self or isolates the receiver, it ceases to be revelation and becomes projection.

  • Not contradiction of love or justice — revelation cannot command cruelty, domination, or exclusion; those violate the divine nature.

  • Not novelty for its own sake — true revelation may sound new, but it always resonates with the timeless rhythm of divine truth.

🔍 How to Recognize Valid Revelation

Across traditions, discernment follows similar tests:

  • Judaism: Does it align with Torah and lead to righteousness?

  • Christianity: Does it bear the fruits of the Spirit — peace, humility, gratitude, deeper faith?

  • Islam: Does it reflect mercy and justice, consistent with the Qur’an’s moral order?

  • Hinduism: Does it arise from selfless devotion and harmony with dharma?

  • Buddhism: Does it reduce suffering and increase compassion?

  • Sikhism: Does it affirm equality, truth, and service to humanity?

When revelation is genuine, it humbles the receiver, uplifts others, and harmonizes with the divine character recognized across faiths. False revelation, by contrast, isolates, inflates, or divides.

A Publisher's Conversation with Authors: De-confusing Royalty Structure

  Authors frequently confuse LIST and NET and, in this way, end up with contracts that pay lower royalties when they believe that they are getting a good deal. Often, they cannot negotiate in ways that benefit themselves because they do not understand this difference and its significance. Let's break this down. List refers to the retail price of the book. Payment on list means a percentage of the retail price of the book. If royalties are 8% of list (5-8% is typical), then on a $10 book, royalties would be 80 cents; if they are 10%, royalties are $1, on every book sold. Easy to calculate, easy to predict income, and always standardized, no surprises or overestimations. Net refers to what is leftover after expenses.
