San Juan Books Presents Its Special Authors: Meet Kris Girrell and Candace Sjogren

Image
San Juan Books is the hybrid division of MSI Press LLC. It allows first-time writers to become published in a traditional way through the reduction of risk by sharing publication costs. All other publishing features are traditional in nature, and most SJB authors go on to be offered traditional contracts for their subsequent books. SJB publications are available as paperback, hard cover, and e-book versions. SJB authors' books very much hold their own against their contemporaries in the traditional publishing division. Indeed, a number of them have outsold their traditional compatriots. Today, San Juan Books presents authors Kris Girrell and Candace Sjogren. Outstanding Book Reviews for Typhoon Honey (Girrell & Sjogren): Readers' Favorite and MidWest Book Review Weigh in with Stellar Praise

Image
This past week Typhoon Honey (Girrell & Sjogren) has received two stellar book reviews: From Readers' Favorite review: After reading Typhoon Honey, I felt I had unlocked something supernatural—a new pair of glasses that gives me a different, liberating view of the world. The idea that "what we see is filtered and tainted by our belief system" is helping me to examine learned beliefs that no longer serve me in the process of deconstructing them. Typhoon Honey is filled with several exercises, details about experiments, and examples from the authors' personal experiences and that of the people they know. I got a clear understanding of the concepts as different scientific and psychological studies are juxtaposed with several real-life examples. I believe that the mind-blowing ideas and stories in this phenomenal self-help book by Kris Girrell and Candace Klein Sjogren could help unite the world and reduce suffering as they encourage readers to heal from harmful, d...

Excerpt from Typhoon Honey (Girrell & Sjogren): Ethics and Meritocracy

Image
Ethics and meritocracy There is an ethical responsibility one assumes in taking on this life and in being source. We recognize that we have assumed a certain set of powers and conditions that are not universal. Many who might be otherwise powerful and successful contributors to their world may not have been gifted with the set of circumstances or privileges that we often take for granted. There are people whose circumstances are so debilitating that it may seem nearly impossible for them to rise out of their conditions. We would consider ourselves as insensitive were we to step over the conditions of those who are disenfranchised, disabled, exploited, un-banked (having no bank account or means to save money), or victims of systemic injustice. These issues are human issues and by default are our issues as well. As we contend with the abundance of the universe, that sharing in abundance carries with it the responsibility of being a channel of abundance for all and that we cannot ...

Spiritual Fitness and the Quiet Power of July 2

Image
Spiritual Fitness and the Quiet Power of July 2 Some dates announce themselves with fireworks. Others hum with a quieter, steadier power—like July 2. From the unification of Vietnam to the birth of voices like Thurgood Marshall and Medgar Evers, July 2 is a day braided with ethical resolve, moral imagination, and collective rebirth. These milestones didn’t just alter policy. They transformed people. They carved deeper grooves of spiritual and psychological fitness—teaching us how to rise, reckon, and rebuild from within. At MSI Press, we believe in that kind of transformation—the kind that begins not in spectacle, but in quiet personal revolution. Many of our books echo this evolution; to wit: The Rose and the Sword (Bach ...
