Book Jewel of the Month: From Deep Within (Lewis) - Review by Geri

What is a book jewel? A sometimes-overlooked book with remarkable insight and potential significance. Starting in August, we will share near-daily, as possible, reviews of the monthly book jewel - short, succinct reviews that can be read in 1-2 minutes with links to the reviewer by reviewers whose words are worthy of being heard and whose opinions are worthy of being considered. Sometimes a couple of minutes contains more impressive thought than ten times that many. We will let you decide that.

This month's book jewel is From Deep Within by Susan Lewis, Ph.D., J.D.

From Geri on Amazon:

Susan Lewis is not just an experienced and skilled psychologist, she’s an engaging storyteller. From the opening pages, her honesty, humanity, and humility will come to portray both her own struggles and those of her clients throughout the book. She begins with her own story, the grandchild of German Jews who made their way to Queens, NY, as Nazi’s rounded up their neighbors, friends, and relatives. Her mother never seems to have overcome the trauma of her childhood and Lewis grew up inheriting crippling fear. It was only in college she came into her own academically and eventually met her therapist and mentor. Lewis’s book is full of stories, some redemptive, some unresolved, and most, difficult told with compassion for the suffering, the “least among us.”
