For the Partners of Porn Addicts -- Joshua Shea Part 1 (Kingdom Cross Podcast)

Image
Joshua Shea, author of MSI published book, He's a Porn Addict...Now What? seemingly had it all. A loving wife, two children, and a supportive extended family. In 2010, after nearly fifteen years working of his way up the journalism ladder, he launched a lifestyle magazine in his hometown. Within a year, he was one of the founders of Central Maine’s largest film festival and had won a seat on the City Council in Auburn, Maine. Accolades, including receiving the Key to the City and being called one of the “Next 10 People Shaping Maine’s Economy” by a state newspaper followed. While the public got one picture of Joshua, behind closed doors, his longtime mental health and addiction issues were festering. A workaholic by nature, he actively ignored the red flags surrounding his long-existing pornography and alcohol problems. Finding it easier to lose himself in a bottle of tequila and adult websites, his relationships with his family, colleagues, and f

Author in the News: Ashley Jo Blassingame Interviews MSI Press Author Joshua Shea about Kicking Porn Addiction on the Lionrock Courage to Change Podcast

Image
Background to the podcast written by Ashley Jo Brewer: Joshua Shea is a pornography addiction expert, certified betrayal trauma coach, and the author of three books about pornography addiction, including  He’s a Porn Addict…Now What? An Expert and Former Addict Answer Your Questions . Since 2018, Joshua has given more interviews about pornography addiction and betrayal trauma than anybody in the world. During his interviews he does not portray an anti-porn message but rather promotes the ideas that porn addiction spans all demographics and those with a problem should seek help before it’s too late. After speaking openly about pornography addiction, he began receiving messages from wives, girlfriends, and mothers of addicts. As a result, he now speaks about the issue of working through betrayal trauma, especially with the partners of addicts and those who are facing infidelity. Today, Josh is not only recovering from a 24-year pornography addiction; he’s also been sober since 2014. Wh

The Story behind the Book: Porn and the Pandemic (Shea)

Image
This week's blog post is the next in the series of book back stories and is the story behind Porn and the Pandemic by Joshua Shea. From the publisher -  This is one story whose back story I know. In 2020, as shutdowns began occurring one after the other, I put out a call to MSI Press authors, who had expertise in a wide variety of topics that could provide good advice to people navigating the pandemic on an everyday basis, asking for "small books" that provided just this sort of advice. Twelve authors answered the call, including Joshua Shea, co-author of He's a Porn Addict...Now What? Joshua wanted to reflect on the impact of the pandemic on porn addiction. He researched, observed, and interviewed. The result was quite fascinating and produced the subtitle, "How Three Months in 2020 Changed Everything." Clearly, porn addiction was up, and Joshua's book found a receptive audience. Hopefully, many were helped by it. Paperback copies of this book can be p

Book Review: Joshuanism (Tosto)

Image
From Goodreads -  Michael Vito Tosto wants to start a new movement. By writing this book he has made a start. The new movement is Joshuanism - based on the Hebrew transliteration of the name for Jesus. Joshuanism is intended to be an alternative to Christianity which he considers to have lost its way in fulfilling the teachings of Joshua (Jesus). The author's new movement is intended to appeal to those who are disaffected by Christianity or who perhaps have previously had nothing to do with Christianity, but are attracted by the teachings of Joshua. The reason for using Jesus’ Hebrew name is to avoid all the various negative connotations that are associated with the name “Jesus”. Joshuanism is structured around some carefully articulated elements: The Ten Tenets of Joshuanism; The Eight Immovables of Joshuanism; and The Joshuanism Creed. There's nothing new in this “new” version of Christianity (for that is essentially what it is). There is nothing offered that has not been s
